In 2022, TheBhub was building nearly 15 software solutions simultaneously with a team of over 25 software engineers and product designers.
From the outside, things looked great.
Behind the scenes, we were dealing with the same operational challenges many growing businesses face but rarely talk about.
As we scaled, project delivery became increasingly dependent on highly specialized talent. Client payment delays affected cashflow, while project commitments remained unchanged. We realized that growth wasn't just about building great technology, it was about building resilient business systems.
Then came the legal challenges.
How do you recover long-overdue invoices without damaging client relationships? How do you strengthen contracts to protect the business before problems arise? Like many SMEs, we didn't have an in-house legal department. Some debts remained unresolved. One client still owes us over KES 15 million.
The financial lessons were just as expensive.
When a potential investor requested five years of audited financial statements, we discovered that our early years lacked the financial structure expected by institutional investors. Reconstructing historical records and completing audits after the fact cost significantly more than if we'd embedded good financial governance from the beginning.
Those experiences fundamentally changed how we think about building businesses.
We realized that technology alone is not enough.
Every growing business needs three things working together:
• Intelligent technology systems
• Strong financial management
• Proactive legal support
Not as separate service providers but as one integrated operating system.
That realization led us to partner with EKV Group and MM & Co. Advocates to create TheBhub Business Operating System (BOS): an integrated model that combines technology, financial management, and legal support under a single engagement.
It's the operating model we wish we had when we were scaling.
If you're building a growing business and finding yourself managing software developers, accountants, tax consultants, auditors, and lawyers separately, let's have a conversation.
Let's discuss how you can focus on growing your business while we help you build the systems, financial discipline, and legal foundation that support sustainable growth.
