330 youth graduate with digital skills in Elgeyo Marakwet!

Huawei, through the DigiTruck initiative, in partnership with Computers for Schools Kenya and the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner, has equipped 330 young people in Chepkorio, Keiyo South with practical digital skills from computer literacy and cybersecurity to online jobs, digital business and internet safety.

The graduation, attended by PS for ICT & Digital Economy Eng. John Tanui, CS Energy & Petroleum Opiyo Wandayi and Keiyo South MP Dr. Gideon Kimaiyo Kipkoech, comes as a new GSMA Intelligence report highlights the urgent need to close the global digital skills gap.

Digital skills are not just about technology they are about creating opportunities, livelihoods and a workforce ready for the AI era.

“Before Huawei DigiTruck came to Taita Taveta, I had never stepped inside a computer class.”

These were the words of Hassan Haki, a graduate of the Huawei DigiTruck Programme and a person living with a disability, during today’s graduation ceremony in Mwatate, Taita Taveta County.

Hassan proudly graduated alongside 199 other youth who successfully completed training in Digital Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Digital Literacy.

His journey is a powerful testament to the transformative impact of digital skills. Despite mobility challenges, Hassan embraced the opportunity to learn and is now determined to use his new knowledge to improve his life and support others in his community.

The graduation ceremony was graced by H.E. Dr. Andrew Mwadime, Governor of Taita Taveta County, and Ms. Wairimu Waweru from the National Youth Council, who joined Huawei Kenya in celebrating this important milestone.

As we celebrate 200 graduates today, Hassan’s story reminds us that when digital opportunities are made accessible, no one is left behind.

This year’s Huawei ICT Competition brought together over 220,000 students and educators from more than 2,000 institutions across 100 countries and regions, creating a global platform for learning, innovation, and collaboration.

Huawei hosts the competition to cultivate ICT talent for the AI era, helping students strengthen practical skills, embrace emerging technologies, and prepare for the digital future.

Under the theme “Connection, Glory, Future” and the slogan “I.C. The Future,” participants competed across Cloud, Network, Computing, AI, and other cutting-edge technology tracks.

From winning the Grand Prize in the Cloud Track, to earning the Women in Tech Award in Computing, and securing First Prize in Networking, Team Kenya demonstrated excellence, innovation, and resilience on the world stage.
