Today, together with the Government of Kenya, Huawei Kenya officially flagged off 12 outstanding students set to represent the country at the Huawei ICT Competition Global Finals in Shenzhen, China next week.

The students, selected through the Huawei ICT Academy Programme, will compete against over 2,000 students from across the globe, showcasing Kenya’s innovation, technical expertise, and growing digital excellence.

The Kenya School of Government and Huawei Kenya have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in advancing digital skills development and ICT capacity building for Kenya’s public service.

As KSG marks 100 years of excellence in public service training, this partnership reflects a shared commitment to building a future-ready, digitally empowered public sector.

Through this collaboration, Huawei Kenya and KSG will work together on joint training programmes, research collaboration, and technical knowledge exchange, with a strong focus on emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity. The initiative will also support industry-aligned certification programmes aimed at equipping public servants and technical staff with advanced digital competencies.

The partnership aligns with Kenya’s digital transformation agenda and reinforces the role of technology and innovation in enhancing efficient public service delivery.

Over 140 youths in Lamu County have graduated from the Huawei DigiTruck Programme after successfully completing five weeks of digital skills training in Mokowe and Mpeketoni.

Among the inspiring graduates were Rose Waithera, who delivered a baby during the training period and returned to complete the programme, and Simon Murimi, a student living with disabilities who attended all sessions and earned his certification.

Their stories reflect the true impact of digital inclusion empowering communities, creating opportunities, and ensuring no one is left behind in Kenya’s digital transformation journey.

Kenya has launched the AI for Disability Project, led by the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, working with partners including the Kenya Institute of Special Education, Qhala, inABLE, Assistive Technologies for Disability Trust, and . The project was unveiled at the Connected Africa Summit 2026 in Nairobi.

The initiative advances inclusive digital transformation through a shared vision of leaving no one behind in the digital era. ICT Authority, the African Telecommunications Union (ATU), TESPOK, and Huawei successfully hosted the Kenya All Optical Summit 2026 in Nairobi on April 29 under the theme “Future-Proof Fibre Connectivity for AI Era”.
The summit highlighted the strategic role of all-optical networks in enabling large-scale 5G deployment, accelerating artificial intelligence (AI) adoption, and supporting Kenya’s national digital transformation agenda.

The summit was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy (Kenya MICDE), the African Telecommunications Union (ATU), the World Broadband Association (WBBA), the ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T), and Safaricom Public Limited Company, along with key stakeholders from the telecommunications and digital ecosystem.

The Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, in partnership with key ecosystem players including Huawei officially launched the Kenya AI for Disability Project at the 15th Connected Africa Summit 2026 in Nairobi, marking a major step toward inclusive digital transformation.

The initiative brings together a strong coalition of partners, including the State Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, the Kenya Institute of Special Education, Qhala, Assistive Technologies for Disability Trust (AT4D), and inABLE, demonstrating a unified, multi-stakeholder approach led in collaboration with the Ministry to drive impact at scale.

With participation from stakeholders across over 12 African countries, the project reflects a growing commitment to making Artificial Intelligence accessible and impactful for persons with disabilities unlocking opportunities in skills development, innovation, and participation in the digital economy.

Aligned with the TECH4ALL initiative, this partnership reinforces a shared commitment to ensuring no one is left behind as digital transformation accelerates.
