Recent discussions on privacy are increasingly focusing on AI governance, transparency, data minimization, and responsible use of personal data in AI systems.

Here in Kenya, the ODPC has already highlighted the need to apply data protection principles when personal data is processed through AI systems.

For firms, these means, establishing clear AI-use policies, employee awareness, access controls, and privacy risk assessments rather than allowing uncontrolled use of AI .

Key Insight: Before putting personal data into any AI tool, ask yourself: Do I have a legitimate reason, proper safeguards, and authorization to share this data?
