As part of the Langa Together initiative in Cape Town, community volunteers have now been trained to use Baotree to support a real, on-the-ground disaster risk assessment in their area.
Langa Together brings together community volunteers, NGOs, public institutions, and academic partners to strengthen disaster readiness in Ward 52, where fire risk remains a daily reality. Now, following training in disaster risk management and assessment, one unit of volunteers is stepping into the field to collect household and community-level data over the coming weeks.
Using Baotree, marshals will capture structured data offline, directly within their community, building a clearer, more detailed picture of local risks, vulnerabilities, and existing strengths.
Baotree was made to be flexible. Our platform works for community-based disaster risk assessments, tourism organisations, NGOs, and CBOs. All kinds of insights can be tracked in Baotree!
Different sectors, different use cases, but the same core idea...better data, collected in the right way, can support better outcomes.
We’re looking forward to seeing the insights that emerge, which will be shared at the Langa Together Reflection Imbizo on 28 May 2026.
