Introduction to the Keyboard

A keyboard is an input device used to type text, numbers, and commands into a computer.

Main Parts of the Keyboard:
1. Alphabet Keys (A–Z)
Used to type letters and form words or sentences.

2. Number Keys (0–9)
Located above the alphabet and on the numeric keypad (right side).
Used for typing numbers.

3. Function Keys (F1 to F12)
Located at the top row.
Perform special tasks like opening help (F1) or refreshing a page (F5).

4. Special Keys:
Enter – Moves to a new line or confirms a command.

Spacebar – Adds spaces between words
Shift – Used with other keys to type capital letters or symbols.

Caps Lock – Types in capital letters when turned ON.

Backspace – Deletes the character before the cursor.

Delete – Removes the character after the cursor.

Tab – Moves the cursor to the next tab stop or field.

Esc (Escape) – Cancels a task or closes a pop-up.

5. Control Keys (Ctrl, Alt, Windows key)
Used in combinations for shortcuts (e.g., Ctrl + C to copy).

6. Arrow Keys
Used to move the cursor up, down, left, or right.

7. Numeric Keypad (on the right side)
Makes it easier to type numbers quickly.
Looks like a calculator.

A. How to Set Time and Date in Windows

1. Click the Start Menu (bottom-left corner).

2. Click the Settings icon (gear shape).

3. In the Settings window, click "Time & Language".

4. Select "Date & Time" from the left sidebar.

5. To set manually:

Turn off “Set time automatically”.

Click “Change” under “Set the date and time manually”.

Choose the correct date and time, then click “Change”.

6. To set automatically:

Turn on “Set time automatically” and choose the correct time zone.

B. How to Change the Theme in Windows

1. Open the Settings.

2. Click on "Personalization".

3. Select "Themes" on the left menu.

4. You’ll see available themes like light, dark, or custom ones.

5. Click on a theme to apply it instantly.

Lesson 3: Powering a Computer On and Off

A. How to Turn ON a Computer:

1. Plug in the Power Cable (for desktops).

2. Turn on the Power Switch (usually at the back for desktops).

3. Press the Power Button on the CPU or laptop.

4. Wait for the Operating System (e.g., Windows) to load.

5. Once it loads, enter your password or click your user account if needed.

B. How to Turn OFF a Computer (Proper Way):

Never switch off directly from the power source!

1. Click the Start Menu (bottom-left of the screen).

2. Click Power or Shut down.

3. Wait for the computer to shut down completely.

4. Then you can switch off the power source (if it’s a desktop).

Quick Tips:

Avoid turning off by unplugging — it can damage the system.

Always save your work before shutting down.

If the system is not responding, use Ctrl + Alt + Delete, then choose Restart.
