This Motherโ€™s Day, we celebrate the remarkable women whose strength, resilience, sacrifice, and guidance continue to shape families, communities, institutions, and nations.

Long before innovation hubs, laboratories, startups, and digital ecosystems existed, mothers were the first innovators, solving problems daily, nurturing potential, building resilience, and creating environments where future generations could grow, learn, and thrive.

At JHUB Africa, we recognise that behind many innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs, students, and changemakers are mothers and mother figures who inspire courage, discipline, creativity, and the confidence to pursue bold ideas.

As we work to build innovation ecosystems, strengthen digital talent, and empower the next generation through technology, research, and entrepreneurship, we are reminded that meaningful transformation often begins with the values nurtured at home: perseverance, curiosity, empathy, and purpose.

We also celebrate the mothers leading from the front across academia, science, technology, business, healthcare, and industry, whose contributions continue to drive innovation and social impact across Africa and beyond.
Today, we honour not only motherhood, but the enduring role mothers play in shaping the future we are collectively building.

To all mothers, thank you for your unwavering support, leadership, and love.

You are appreciated. You are celebrated. You are extraordinary.

Happy Motherโ€™s Day from JHUB Africa.

On 5th May 2026, JHUB Africa hosted a distinguished delegation as part of the IMPACT HE project ecosystem tour at JKUAT, a four-year Erasmus+ Capacity Building initiative led by Obreal, focused on strengthening the role of African universities as drivers of local development. The project also works closely with the African Network for Internationalisation of Education (ANIE) and engages policymakers in defining the role of higher education in regional development.

The delegation, led by Philip Oyier, Coordinator of the Kenyan German Centre for Data Analytics (KGDA) at JKUAT, brought together academic and institutional leaders engaged in advancing internationalisation, research collaboration, and university-led innovation ecosystems across Kenya and beyond.

During the engagement, Simon Mwangi,Hub manager, JHUB Africa, delivered a comprehensive presentation of the JHUB Africa model, positioning the hub as a practical bridge between academia and industry. He outlined how JHUB Africa is leveraging an AI-first approach and emerging technologies to move student-led ideas beyond the classroom into real-world, scalable solutions.

Through live examples from the ecosystem, he demonstrated how innovations are nurtured across the full value chain, from ideation and prototyping to commercialisation and scale, emphasising a strong focus on applying technology to solve real challenges in agriculture, climate, health, and digital transformation.

A key theme that emerged was the intentional design of JHUB Africaโ€™s innovation pipeline. By integrating mentorship, industry collaboration, IP protection, and structured commercialisation pathways, the hub is actively addressing the โ€œvalley of deathโ€ that often limits university innovations from reaching the market.

The exchange also highlighted a strong alignment between the objectives of the IMPACT HE project and JHUB Africaโ€™s operational model. While IMPACT HE is focused on strengthening institutional capacity for managing international partnerships and development funding, JHUB Africa provides a working example of how these structures translate into tangible innovation outcomes on the ground.

Our discussions further underscored the importance of collaboration as a growth lever. As noted during the session, partnerships with industry, development organisations, and global ecosystems remain critical in scaling innovations, attracting investment, and expanding impact across African markets.

This engagement reinforced a shared direction: universities must go beyond knowledge generation to actively build innovation ecosystems that are responsive, collaborative, and commercially viable.

At JHUB Africa, this remains central; bridging research, talent, and technology to create solutions that not only emerge from academia but thrive in the real world.
