On 12th May 2026, JHUB Africa hosted a strategic engagement session with ecosystem partners and technology leaders from Clickwork Network and Nation.dev to explore the future of software development, AI-driven skills development, and digital workforce readiness.
The engagement brought together Dr. Lawrence Nderu, Founder JHUB Africa, Muchiri Nyaggah, Founder of Clickwork Network and the Local Development Research Institute, Juan Carlos Mauritz, CEO and Co-founder of Nation.dev, alongside the JHUB Africa team for insightful discussions on how universities, industry, and innovation hubs can work together to better prepare students for the evolving global technology landscape.
A major focus of the discussions centred on the growing impact of Artificial Intelligence on software engineering and the urgent need to equip students with practical, industry-relevant, and future-ready competencies. The conversations emphasised that while AI is transforming software development, the future developer will require stronger problem-solving, research, innovation, and systems-thinking capabilities beyond traditional coding alone.
Dr. Lawrence Nderu highlighted JHUB Africaโs commitment to building practical innovation pipelines that connect curriculum learning with real-world problem solving. Through initiatives such as internal innovation attachments, commercialisation of student-led solutions, industry partnerships, and multidisciplinary collaboration, JHUB Africa continues to position students not only as graduates but as innovators, founders, and globally competitive professionals.
The meeting also explored opportunities for collaboration through pilot programs aimed at assessing student skills against industry demands, AI readiness, and evolving workforce expectations. The proposed initiative would support students in identifying competency gaps early while providing institutions with valuable insights for curriculum improvement and workforce alignment.
Throughout the engagement, we saw a strong recognition that the future of digital talent development will depend on stronger collaboration between academia, industry, and innovation ecosystems. Preparing students for the AI era will require practical exposure, continuous learning, market-aligned skills, and opportunities to build impactful solutions for society.
At JHUB Africa, we remain committed to creating platforms that bridge education, innovation, and industry while empowering young people to become active contributors within the global digital economy.
