Star Festival

Every year, July 7th is Tanabata.
Tanabata is considered to be a very romantic day in Japanese folklore.
It is the only day in the year when Orihime and Hikoboshi meet in the Milky Way.

Once upon a time, there was a god's daughter, Orihime, and a young man, Hikoboshi.
The two got married. Then, the two who had been hard workers suddenly began to play and not work at all.

God became angry and created the Milky Way between them and separated them.

But God promised that if they worked as hard as before, he would let them meet only once a year.
Then they changed their minds and started working hard.

Then they were allowed to meet only once a year across the Milky Way, and that day came to be called Tanabata.

Nowadays, people write wishes on bamboo leaves and decorate them, wishing that their wishes will come true, just like the two of them.

Japanese Summer Event(What is Natsukoshi-no-Oharai?)
summer purification rites (held at shrines on the last day of the 6th lunar month)

Natsukoshi-no-oharai is a traditional event officially started at the Imperial Court in 701 under the Taiho Ritsuryo (Law of the Rising Sun), and is a kind of purification.

There are two types of exorcisms: Natsukoshi-no-Oharai and Toshikoshi-no-Oharai.

This event is very famous because it is believed to be beneficial not only for the elimination of bad luck, but also for good health and traffic safety.

Where can I experience it in Yokosuka?

The event is held at Otsu Suwa Shrine, located at 4-22-22 Otsu-cho, Yokosuka City.
On June 30, "Natsukoshi-no-Oharai (Great Exorcism of Summer) Thatch Ring Gathering" will be held at Otsu Suwa Shrine, located behind Otsu High School.

Kanagawa Prefecture Decide to Cancel Torch relay

The Governor of Kanagawa Prefecture, Mr. Kuroiwa, has announced that he has decided to cancel the torch relay on public roads scheduled to start on June 28, after considering the infection situation in the prefecture.

The torch relay was scheduled to travel through 15 cities and towns in the prefecture, including Yokosuka City.

Torch relay is scheduled to arrive in Yokosuka City

March 24, 2020, the International Olympic Committee and the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee announced the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games due to the effects of a new coronavirus infection that is spreading throughout Japan and around the world.

As a result, the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay was also cancelled, but this year, after the postponement, the torch is being carried across Japan.

The torch relay is scheduled to arrive in Yokosuka City on June 29.　
The torch relay will start from Nobi at 11:15 a.m. on June 29, and then connect two places near Umikaze Park - Yokosuka Art Theater at around 12:15 p.m.
Unfortunately, we won't be able to watch the event while cheering, but those who live along the route can cheer from inside their homes.

The world's best sports game Spartan Race is scheduled to be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at Soleil no oka l in Uminote Park, Yokosuka City.

The Spartan Race is the world's best obstacle race, with more than 170 races held annually in 40 countries around the world.

Fitness elements that enhance various physical abilities are incorporated as obstacles in the running course, and not only the cardiopulmonary ability required for running but also overall muscular strength is required.

The rainy season is about to come this year as well.

Golden Week (Japanese English: Golden Week, GW)

Golden week is a period in Japan where there are many holidays from the end of April to the beginning of May every year. Golden Week holidays. Most of office and school are close for this term. Usually trains, airports and sightseeing spots get very crowded during Golden Week. Also our office is close for these national holidays.
