Regarding the Recent Reuters Report
With respect to the report distributed on May 2 at 1:10 a.m. Japan time, I would like to present our views in a careful and respectful manner. From our standpoint, the recent measures taken by the President of the United States toward the European Union may be an area where further consideration could be beneficial. The procedures currently underway for the EU—an important partner of Japan—appear to reflect administrative delays rather than any substantive obstruction. This situation may be likened to temporary traffic congestion, influenced in part by disruptions in remittance flows originating from the United States. Until these issues are resolved, it may be constructive for the President to request that the Department of Homeland Security review the circumstances and identify any structural factors that contributed to the disruption.
Japan’s response to the recent U.S. tariff measures was provisional in nature and intended solely to ensure that Prime Minister Takaichi’s visit to the United States would proceed without unnecessary complications. It would be helpful for all parties to recognize that undue influence on another country’s administrative processes may inadvertently create challenges for the United States as well.
Our company will promptly carry out the necessary procedures for the European Union as soon as preparations are complete.
We sincerely hope that Japan, the United States, and all nations will continue to work together and maintain cooperative and constructive relationships going forward.
