Happy Friday !
DID YOU KNOW π©βπ«
The word "Computer" was first recorded as being used in 1613 and was originally used to describe a human who performed calculations or computations?
This definition remained until the 19th Century!
What is the first record of a mechanical computer?
π€The Difference Engine was designed by Charles Babbage-a British Mathematician, Inventor and Engineer, in 1822. The Difference Engine was an automatic mechanical calculator designed to tabulate polynomial functions. Shortly after, Charles later proposed the Analytical Engine-successor to the Difference Engine (1833-1871). Unfortunately due to lack of funding, Charles died before completing the machine. In 1910 Henry Babbage-Charles youngest son was able to complete a portion of the machine which was able to perform calculations, incorporated an arithmetic logic unit, control flow in the form of conditional branching and loops, and integrated memory, making it the first design for a general-purpose computer that could be described in modern terms as Turing-complete.
His varied work in other fields has led him to be described as "preeminent" among the many polymaths of his century.
π€The outward appearance is distinctively different from computers today but through all the essential ideas of modern computers are to be found in Babbage's Analytical Engine. We can appreciate Charles Babbage's contribution to the development of technology as we strive towards future growth.
Have a good weekend
