A 2ND TAXI APP IN JERSEY????

Not sure if you've heard but the Jersey Taxis App is no longer the only smartphone taxi app in Jersey!

No, there is a new one, with a flashy red logo and named Call A Cab App!

However, we're really delighted to say that we are fully responsible for it and in fact, the Call A Cab App is a rebranded version of the Jersey Taxis App :-)

So why a 2nd App? Well demand is growing and a lot of drivers have joined in with Call A Cab App so requests can be answered even more efficiently and more quickly now.

The best part is that if you are a user of the Jersey Taxis App, you do not need to download or install the Call A Cab App, the two Apps are fully compatible with each other.

However, there is one thing that may want to make you download the Call A Cab App that is not in the Jersey Taxis App! It is a CALL option. We've added a GPS enabled call system so if you rather just dial a taxi instead of using the App, simply press the button and the App will search for the nearest driver to your location and will dial his number directly and you can simply ask your driver directly! Now, this is really cool technology !!!!

We will also shortly announce another revolution coming to the world of taxis in Jersey. Jersey Taxis App Version 2

Version 2 of the App is now available for iPhone and Android.

Version 2 has a new re-designed modern interface as well as the pre-booking feature allowing to pre-book a taxi in advance using your app.

The App not only allows you to pre-book but also get a fare estimation of your trip and also confirm straight away if the booking can be handled or not.

On the day and time of the booking, you will receive a reminder to inform you when your driver is on its way and will be able to track his progress on your app.

To update, simply search for Jersey Taxis on the App or Play stores and download the update.

NEW APP LAUNCHED!

A little message that has nothing to do with the Jersey Taxis App but we wanted to share with all of you.

You may have seen this in the JEP a few days ago (if not, a cut of the article is below) and we are very pleased to announce the release of our brand new App for Jersey Heritage called "Virtual Pocket Museum".

This App uses cutting edge technology to display Jersey Heritage's artefact in 3D on your phone or tablet screens or even better, if you are a member of Jersey Heritage, you can use your membership card to view those artefacts right in your hands or on the table in front of you!

Also, if you have a 3D printer, the App allows you to print those artefact on your 3D printer.

The first 3 objects available are a Mammoth Tooth, a Short Menhir and a Stone Axe. More artefacts will be added regularly to complement the exhibition coming out soon about the coin hoard found in Jersey a couple of years ago.

Anyone interested by an Area Manager role for the UK?

As we mentioned before, we're taking the little Jersey Taxis App to the UK mainland! Not to a couple of cities or even one area but to a staggering 85% of the UK covered!

How we do this is thanks to a couple of unique features which allows us to have nearly 7000 taxicab companies on the books to take jobs. The map below give you an idea of the areas covered. The other is thanks to a rewarding scheme for area managers that allows them to get a nice monthly return for finding out taxicab companies to join the Appy Taxi scheme.

Our areas are broken down by postcode so we have 171 of them. Each areas contains a number of districts and when put together, this comes to about 2900 districts. We have a number of them already under management but also have a number of them that need looking after so if you know anyone (friends, family, business...) interested to take one or more areas left, ask them to get in touch on [email protected] and we will indicate which areas are available.

Well, we've been quiet for a little while now and this is because we've been very very busy with some amazing news.

Firstly, we will shortly be launching Version 2 of the Jersey Taxis App! You can see our new icon and a screenshot below. We have a full article coming up next week on this page about Version 2. As you can see, not only it has a clean, modern new user interface but it now has a brand new entirely automated booking feature as well!

Then, towards the end of next week, we will announce the official launch of our brand new App. This is not directly connected with Jersey Taxis, but we are very proud of it and want to share it with you as you may find it interesting!

Finally, the reason that we have been so busy in the last few weeks is because we have been putting the final preparation to the launch of the Taxis App across the UK! Re-branded Appy Taxi UK, the App is exactly the same as the Jersey Taxis App and the nationwide sale is starting this very Monday with the official launch at the Private Hire Exhibition at Donington Park on the 13th and 14th of May 2014! We have several areas sold already and have area managers that covers many parts of the UK ready to change the way taxis are booked in the UK! Let's be honest, we're not the first App available in the UK, but we are the one and only app that is truly nationwide and allow you to hail, book or pay for a taxi with one single App whether you are in Scotland or down the South!

We'll be sharing more details about the exciting adventure for our little Jersey Taxis App with you in the coming weeks.

The Spanish Holiday Accommodation Offer is Back on!!!

Are you a licensed Jersey Taxis Driver?

If yes, the Jersey Taxis App is looking for more drivers to join in!

There is no contract, no monthly rent, no minimum fee, no minimum hours! Just continue to work as you do now and accept jobs as and when you can. You will be charge a simple 50 pence per job completed! That's as easy as that!

The Jersey Taxis App is not a taxicab company, any drivers (rank or private hire) can join in to take additional jobs and with the arrival of the advance booking option in the App as well as more great promotions on the way, we now need a few more drivers to covers the additional demand.

WELCOME TO 2014 - OUR NEW COVER

As we look forward to 2014 as our most exciting year yet, here is some info about our new cover picture!

So what does 2014 means for the Jersey Taxis App?

The 2 of 2014:

This is about Version 2 of the App. Already out for Android devices and available on the Play Store, this update will shortly be available for iPhones as well and this add the long awaited advance booking facility.

This simply means that you can now book your taxi requirement straight from your app for future dates, review, amend or even cancel the booking from your phone and get confirmation when your driver is on its way as well as when he is about to arrive.

This new update will also bring fare costs estimation.

The 0 of 2014:

Well this is for Zero maintenance. What this means is that the Jersey Taxis App is such an advance system that there is actually nobody at a desk handling the requests or managing the bookings. It is entirely done by our clever program running on Foreshore servers.

When the server receive a request from one of you, it look out for the nearest driver and send him the request and keep you informed on progress. Same for all bookings, they are automatically handled and managed by the server.

The 1 of 2014:

Well this is for our 1st Anniversary. On the 18th of May 2014, it will be one year exactly that the Jersey Taxis App was launched.

On that day, we will give you some amazing facts such as the number of requests handled, the number of miles travelled by the client on the App as well as the incredible amount of special offers and savings clients using the Jersey Taxis App have made during that year.

But talking of savings, don't miss out our 1st Anniversary as we are preparing our best ever offer and promotion yet...

Finally, the 4 in 2014:

Well this has actually 2 meanings. The first one is the 4 great ways of booking a taxi using the Jersey Taxis App.

There is of course the instant request by using the App for immediate use, there is also the advance booking which allow you to pre-book your taxicab for a future date but there is also the Jersey Taxis Desktop App, designed for businesses and corporate companies, this allows hotels, restaurants, receptions..etc to book taxis straight from their desktop PC and keeping track of all the bookings. Finally, there is still the standard SMS messaging system which allow you to request a taxi using a standard (non smart) phone by texting your postcode to book a taxi.

However, the 4 in 2014 is also for our 4000+ registered clients. This is a tremendous achievement and we are extremely grateful to all of you that have supported the Jersey Taxis App in 2013 even if sometimes it has not been possible to allocate a taxicab to all the demands.
We can assure you that we're working hard to make the App even more reliable and more available in 2014 and we will reward your loyalty even more in 2014.

Leonie's Mission Competition Winner Announced!

We're delighted to announce that the winner of our Leonie's Mission Competition associated with the Leonie's Mission (www.leoniemission.com) Movie is... Rebecca Wijsmuller.

Rebecca was one of the 322 entries we received for this competition but on those that entered, only 28 had the full correct answer.

Many did find part of the answer but what we needed is the full answer as follow:

The first part of the code was a geo-location (A latitude and longitude), however, this was not an original geo-location and it had to be divided by the number 13 to reveal the exact geo-location.

The number 13 is the room number Leonie ask if there is a message for when in the hotel and as hotels do not have room 13 in general, this should have been an indication to use this number to resolve the first part of the clue.

The second part of the clue was based on the standard Monoalphabetic Substitution meaning that each letter of the alphabet is replaced according to the key with another letter or symbol. Even without knowing the key, these are actually easy to decipher.
Our secret location clearly had 4 same letters grouped in two. There are not many letters in the alphabet that can be next to each other and on this occasion, it was the letter O.

So, the first part of the code revealed a geo-location of 49.1823769 , -2.107438 which when entered on a Google Map, revealed the location of ... the Jersey Museum (which is also where the end of Leonie's Mission was actually shot!)

Using the standard table below which is commonly available on the Internet, The 2nd part of the code revealed the location of ROOM E - 3rd FLOOR.

So the full answer was JERSEY MUSEUM - ROOM E - 3RD FLOOR.

Another important part of the competition is what Leonie's Mission is about! As her boss says, "Leonie, your mission is to help people win this competition" so a few people did contact Leonie including our Winner Rebecca to ask for some help and this was the right thing to do as all those who did contact Leonie, received a clue to each part of the message to help working it out.

Now for the prize, Rebecca has won:

- A taxi pickup from a chosen location in Jersey
- A hair cut and blow dry for two people complimentary of Tranquility Hair Salon in St John,
- An overnight stay at The Club Hotel in St Helier
- A Rasul Mud Treatment room for two at The Club Spa
- A welcome glass of champagne at the Bohemia Bar
- A Menu for two at Michelin starred Bohemia Restaurant
- A return taxi pickup from the hotel back to a chosen location in Jersey

So how did Rebecca react at the news:

"I am so pleased to have won. I think it's great that the movie was shot entirely in Jersey and it made breaking the code even more exciting"

So congratulation to Rebecca and a big thank you to all of you that entered the competition.

Who is Leonie Carlisle?

For the last few weeks, the education department has been running a school competition about Leonie's Mission movie entitled "Who is Leonie Carlisle".

This competition was opened to students aged 13 to 16 and many entries were submitted. Closing date was yesterday and today one student was handed a brand new iPad Mini and two runner ups were handed an iPod Nano each!
