Published on the occasion of Kiriakos Tompolidis’ first solo exhibition with Galerie Judin. The young painter decided to unfurl his family album and invites us to follow the footsteps of his Greek grandparents, who left their homeland to find a better life in Germany. All his family members and their contrasting attitudes are featured in the works of this exhibition, including himself. They are about life between two “worlds”, as Tompolidis describes it, an in-between space that the young painter explores in his paintings. But while the prevailing theme is indeed family and cohesion, almost all the figures are depicted as solitary: They are left to their own devices, alone with their hopes and fears. It is this loneliness and melancholy that pervades Tompolidis’ work.

Flag design for „Swamp Observatory“ project by Urbonas Studio

“What if wetlands were not remnants of the past but prototypes of possible futures? What forms of intelligence emerge when amphibian creatures, algorithms, folklore, and ecological memory meet in the mist of a high altitude bog? At Haltestellenschwärmerei, visitors encounter the Swamp Observatory, an augmented reality ecology populated by beings that seem to have travelled across geological and imaginary time.“

24 Flags – a Project by Kunstmeile Hamburg

With the project 24 Flags, Kunstmeile Hamburg brings art into the public realm. Following its first edition last summer, the series returns with a second edition along the 24 flagpoles located around Glockengießerwall and Klosterwall.
Flags are familiar features of the urban landscape, serving both as markers of orientation and as vehicles for images. Embedded within the visual fabric of the city, they appear here as artistic interventions. For this second edition, Chloë Bass, Iman Issa and Nathalie Du Pasquier have each developed site-specific works. What unites them is an interest in how meaning emerges through the interplay of context, arrangement and perception. Chloë Bass explores how intimate experiences are renegotiated within public and urban settings. Iman Issa brings together historical references, text and objects in new constellations, reflecting on the ways meaning is shaped through display and interpretation. Nathalie Du Pasquier works across painting, objects and installation, combining representational and abstract elements in dynamic spatial arrangements.

Sharon Olds — Oder

In the poetry collection Odes, Sharon Olds renews the ode tradition and places it in a new and modern context. In poems such as “Ode to the Vaginal Ring,” “Ode to My Sister,” and “Ode to the Blowjob,” Olds explores familiar themes and positions. The roles of mother, daughter, sister, wife, lover, and friend are explored in poems that are both accessible and complex.

Sharon Olds is both a controversial and beloved poet in the United States. A selection of her poems is represented in Norwegian in the anthology Verden finnes ikke på kartet (ed. Pedro Carmona-Alvarez and Gunnar Wærness, 2010). Odes is Sharon Olds’ first single work in Norwegian re-poetry.

Next week, a workshop with Elisava students takes place in Barcelona — here’s a look back at last spring’s project.

The design of the exhibition „Just delivered: The Most Beautiful Swiss Books Visit Barcelona“ was the outcome of a workshop led by Serge Rompza from NODE Berlin Oslo with the students from the two editions of the Master in Editorial Design in 2025. This display presented the winners of The Most Beautiful Swiss Books awarded in 2024.

During the short week, the students studied the individual books and interpreted them as graphics on the wall, both in print and in the form of a collaborative video. The exhibition displays were also part of the assignment.
