Siamo un laboratorio di stampa tipografica e progettazione grafica nato nel 2003 per la passione di questo mestiere.

Siamo un gruppo di stampatori, grafici e amanti della tipografia, che ha deciso di riunirsi per fondare un laboratorio di stampa che accomuni la cura per il dettaglio classica del mondo artigiano, e le capacità e le possibilità delle tecnologie moderne.

Colour matching is never a matter of replication alone. Each ink was mixed by hand to remain faithful to the original archive prints while making subtle adjustments where needed. The goal was not to reproduce the past exactly, but to preserve its character within a contemporary context. Video: &

For the reprint of historical covering papers for Giulio Giannini e Figlio, the process began long before printing. Original archive specimens were studied to identify paper, ink behaviour, registration, and the sequence of colours. Every ink was hand-mixed, getting inspiration from the original edition of “Arte Rustica Italiana”, preserving the character of the historical prints while preparing them for production.

Our collection is not preserved to be observed. It is preserved to be used. Maintaining type, presses, tools and printing materials in working condition is part of our daily practice. We are less interested in collecting objects than in preserving the knowledge required to use them. Ph. &

Every process begins with a gesture. Photographed by Emmanuele Coltellacci during the production of a book for , these images focus on the hands behind the work: adjusting pressure, aligning sheets, mixing ink, operating machines. Knowledge exists as much in movement as in memory.

In traditional typography, white space is a material. Margins, leading and word spaces are built from lead or aluminium pieces that define the composition as much as the printed letters. They occupy space in the printing frame, they represent a structural need, and they return to the rack when the project is concluded. Unlike digital typography, even what remains unprinted has a tangible presence, even the white requires time to be properly set.

Photographed on medium format film with a Hasselblad by Denise Aimar () e Domenico Conte (), these images document the spaces of our workshop. More than 3,000 type cases fill the space, each containing tools that remain part of an active printing practice. Keeping this collection in use requires time, precision and continuous care. In a culture that values speed, these materials demand a different pace. The tools themselves define the rhythm of the work.

In our workshop, graphic design happens through objects. Pieces are moved by hand, weights are lifted, and every process works within precise physical limits. We take care of these tools daily, and we don’t like to see those constraints as obstacles but as conditions that trigger the design process.
