💡 The wrong first question is: “what can we cut?”
A FinOps lead sees yesterday’s spend jump across AWS and Azure, with a smaller GCP movement in the same dashboard.
The alert is real enough to start a review, but not clear enough to assign blame. The billing data may still reflect provider timing. The cost may sit under a shared platform group. The resource behind it may be part of a larger service relationship. Or the spike may be expected usage, commitment accounting, or budget pressure rather than waste.
👉 Before escalation, ask four questions:
1. Is the cost data fresh enough to interpret?
2. Which allocation group owns the affected spend?
3. What resources, metadata, history, or relationships explain the change?
4. Is this a true anomaly, expected usage, or a budget conversation?
🎯 Reply CMP supports this review pattern across Azure, AWS, and GCP by connecting cost spike alerts, FinOps allocation, Discovery resource context, dashboards, and scheduled reports. The useful output is not just a chart. It is a decision path: notify, investigate, adjust budget, or remediate with review.
When your team sees a multi-cloud cost spike, what is the first technical triage question you ask?
