The new Printfil 5.32 release is available to download at https://www.Printfil.com as a FREE upgrade for all the registered 5.x Customers.

What's new:

- Added support for Windows Server 2025 Terminal Server. Please see the article How to print from DOS on Terminal Server on our website.

- Definitely fixed the bug introduced by Microsoft on Terminal Servers (Windows 2016 and later) with its Cumulative Update 2021-12 that prevented the virtual printer "Printfil" from working correctly in some cases, forcing those users to create PDF files one at a time. Since Microsoft never fixed it, we modified Printfil itself to manage the virtual printer differently

- Enhanced compatibility with newer GhostPCL versions when printing legacy jobs in PCL mode with Windows 10 and later. If you are still using Windows 7 or earlier versions, which cannot support the newest GhostPCL versions, backward compatibility has been maintained up to GhostPCL 9.50. Please find more info and the download links in the manual, Chapter 5.3 - HP-PCL graphics printing engine

- Enhanced autoconfiguration of the 7 DOSBox variants supported by Printfil: DOSBox-X, DOSBox SVN Daum, DOSBox MegaBuild 6, vDosPlus, vDos, dbDOSv and dbDOS PRO

- When printing in GDI mode, if the source program doesn't correctly terminate the last line of the report with a CR-LF pair (CarriageReturn-LineFeed), now Printfil fixes the captured print automatically

- Some other minor improvements

The new Printfil 5.31 release is available to download at https://www.Printfil.com as a FREE upgrade for all the registered 5.x Customers.

What's new:

- Printfil now can automatically remove blank pages even in the middle of the GDI prints, if the RemLastChr parameter is set to a negative value (e.g. -1). Please search for the "RemLastChr" word in the manual, chapter 4

- If Printfil is running in evaluation mode and detects that the last page of a captured GDI print is empty, it now suggests the page explaining how to use the RemLastChr parameter to automatically remove the blank pages. Please search for the "RemLastChr" word in the manual, chapter 4

- Added integration with dbDOSv 2 and dbDOS PRO 7. Unlike the other DOSBox variants already supported by Printfil, dbDOS allows multiple DOSBox configurations in the same machine. Printfil now detects if these products are installed in the system and can automatically capture the prints run in those configurations specifically set up to use Printfil. Just like the other DosBox variants already supported by Printfil, dbDOS may be useful to run a DOS program on a 64-bit Windows OS without having to use virtual machines through software like VMWare or VirtualBox

- When Printfil starts in evaluation mode on a 64-bit machine and detects that no DOSBox variant that supports printing is installed, a small message appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen. If clicked it points to a page explaining how to use our DosPrint utility to automatically download, install, and configure the right DOSBox variant

- When Printfil starts and detects there's a DOSBox variant that supports printing installed on the machine, but it's not configured to redirect the prints to Printfil, a small message appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen. If clicked it can automatically fix the DOSBox configuration

- When Printfil was used in combination with the newest vDos versions, sometimes the autoconfiguration of this DOSBox variant could fail. Fixed

- Some other minor improvements

The new Printfil 5.30 release is available to download at https://www.Printfil.com as a FREE upgrade for all the registered 5.x Customers.

What's new:

- When emailing a print job as a PDF file (statements, invoices, etc.), if you didn't already declare the destination address by the optional CFG file, Printfil now searches for the e-mail addresses directly within the text of the captured print

- Now Printfil checks if the set Archiving path is different from the capturing one (otherwise in some cases the archived prints could be recaptured again)

- When merging a background image to the textual prints by the GDI print engine at Configuration -> Standard -> Options now you can even add the additional parameters used to place/resize the image on the sheet(s), as explained in the manual, chapter 6

- The inclusion of PDF files as the background of the captured prints when using the GDI print engine has been enhanced

- We found that a buggy BMP file could crash Printfil when merged as the background when using the GDI print engine. Now if the bitmap is corrupted, the image is simply ignored

- When used in combination with DosPrint and the newest DOSBox-X versions sometimes the DOSBox autoconfiguration failed. Fixed

- Some other minor improvements

The new Printfil 5.29 release is available to download at https://www.Printfil.com as a FREE upgrade for all the registered 5.x Customers.

What's new:

- Now you can automatically create a PrintWin virtual printer that tries to capture the TEXT of Windows print jobs. This is useful to make Printfil capture data from legacy programs that need a Windows printer driver installed in the Control Panel but cannot drive the newest printers (some Terminal Emulator programs for example) or to extract the text from Windows print jobs (statements, invoices, etc.)

- If DOSBox is installed on the machine, now you can easily configure it to capture all ports (LPT and COM) through Printfil at once. You just have to right-click the Printfil trayed icon and choose Configuration -> DOSBox: Capture Port: All

- Added support for the latest GhostScript/GhostPCL 10 version, for faster creation of PDF files, and faster management of print jobs when the PCL printing engine is used

- Some other minor improvements

- When merging a PDF file as the background of a DOS print by the GDI printing engine, now you can use even long file names with embedded spaces

- The recent Microsoft 2021-12 Cumulative Update caused the "Printfil" virtual printer to stop working on Windows Terminal Servers. Please see the yellow note in the article at https://www.printfil.com/article/dos-print-windows-terminal-server.htm -to-pdf

[ Windows 11 and DOS programs ]

Many customers have contacted us concerned that with the arrival of Windows 11 they would no longer be able to use their legacy programs and print to Windows printers with Printfil.

Don't worry; for over 25 years we have been involved in maintaining backward compatibility on the most modern systems.

In this screenshot, you can see the DOS EDIT editor from the 90's running on Windows 11 and its print to LPT1: captured by Printfil.
