For many years, the GDPR was interpreted mainly as a set of documentary compliance requirements.

The latest guidance from the Italian Data Protection Authority reinforces a fundamental principle: there can be no data protection without an adequate level of cybersecurity.

Personal data is not truly protected if it can be:

🔹 stolen in a cyberattack;
🔹 made unavailable by ransomware;
🔹 altered or accessed by unauthorised parties.

The protection of personal data depends not only on the documentation in place, but also on the technical and organisational measures adopted to ensure its confidentiality, integrity and availability.

From August 31 to September 4, 2026, Lignano Sabbiadoro will host the fifth edition of EQAI – European Summer School on Quantum AI, dedicated to Quantum Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and their practical applications.

A week of learning with international experts, in-depth sessions, hands-on activities, and networking opportunities for students, researchers, professionals, and quantum technology enthusiasts.

Cybersecurity enters the Boardroom.
Strategic decisions can no longer be delegated.

The new guidance issued by the Italian National Cybersecurity Agency clarifies a principle that is set to change the way companies approach information security: responsibility for cybersecurity strategy lies with the governing bodies. Ex*****on may be entrusted to operational functions, but governance remains the responsibility of senior management.

For many years, cybersecurity was considered an exclusively technical matter, entrusted to IT departments or external providers. Today, this approach is no longer sufficient.

With the clarifications published by the Italian National Cybersecurity Agency regarding the NIS2 Directive, a fundamental principle has been reaffirmed: strategic decisions concerning information security cannot be delegated. Operational activities, on the other hand, may be entrusted to CISOs, IT managers or external consultants.

The question every Board of Directors should ask is: “Are we managing cyber risk as a business risk?”

Cybersecurity is no longer merely a technological issue.
It is a component of corporate governance, on a par with financial, operational and compliance risks.
