A few days ago I experienced one of those tests that remain etched in my memory. I was able to listen to our Delta Sigma Aussa Mac monoblocks paired with MBL 101 MKII omnidirectional speakers, that is with 81dB efficiency. Downstream from the source and the DAC is a tube preamp that sends the signal to an active crossover. From there, the path splits: the mid-bass, midrange, and treble sections are driven by the powerful Karan KSA600 (600W stereo), while the subwoofers have their own dedicated amplification. A system refined over time, with crossovers and fine-tuning meticulously crafted by the enthusiast with the help of Diego Andreoli and his Imagination Audio System subwoofers. The test involved both the preamplifier and the pair of Delta Sigma monoblocks. The tube preamp proved to be very linear and pleasant in the midrange in several respects, but less linear and less firm at the frequency extremes. The Delta Sigma Aussa Mac amplifiers, despite "only" 300W each, were able to assert themselves. The mid-bass response was more substantial, deeper, and controlled than the 600W stereo power amp. This control was physically perceptible. In the mid-high range, however, they delivered a sound rich in harmonics, incredibly musical, with notes that glided with just the right speed and persistence: suspended in the air, defined, alive. After some small final adjustments, the system achieved a level of coherence, naturalness, and engagement that I personally really liked. A very interesting combination that, with some further development and fine-tuning, could become excellent. See you next time.
