Further to the last post regarding Starlink it is better for people who are here permanently as opposed to back and forth. The reason being it cannot be easily switched on and off.

Well Happy New Year. Buon Anno.
Over the last 12 months I have become more of an "it" guy as opposed to I.T.
Let me explain. Whilst my wife puts a g in front of it and incorporates this in sentences which include lazy and old , I actually mean if "it" needs doing and you don't have the time or tools I will do it for you or I will know someone who can get it done for you.
From plastering to gardening to fitting ceiling fans to tiling. My wife has even saved the day once or twice with some home delivered catering.
So as I enter this new year I embrace my new roles. So if in doubt give me a shout!

Back to IT
i am currently looking at Starlink satellite internet.
It looks promising and is cheaper here than in the UK. More expensive than 4G but not prohibitively. Worth a look. You can find it for yourselves but by all means get in touch with me if you want more information. I am having a closer gander at it but to be fair so far it seems good.

Well first of all may I wish you all the best for the festive season. I have been somewhat quiet as we have had a family issue that has turned us inside out.
Anyway - enough about me!
For all the people who have 4G internet but feel that they could do with a bigger data allowance, Very Mobile are now offering 500Gb for 13,99 euros per month. This equates to on standard definition approximately 500 hours of streaming TV per month. Not too shabby, Happy Christmas!

First of all can I take this opportunity to thank people for their recommendations and positive comments. Cheers for that.

Internet speeds – Don't forget that if you as a household are connecting several devices at the same time you may find a dip in internet speed because the draw is too much for the service in this area. If you experience this problem, try disconnecting one of the devices. This means you may have to watch something together :)

VPN's
As most of you know if you wish to stream content from outside Italy you need a VPN (Virtual Private Network).
I have noticed that when streaming IPTV without the VPN connected, after about half an hour we start to notice some buffering. However when I connect the VPN the buffering stops. I suspect that this is because the ISP (Internet Service Provider) may slow down the connection because of the high amount of data being transferred.
This is not necessarily always the case but certainly is what happens with us. This may be because a VPN encrypts the data resulting in the source /destination being “hidden” for want of a better way of explaining this.

Don't forget an occasional re-boot!
We were watching "12 mighty orphans" (nice film) last night and experienced buffering for the first time in ages. It was when my wife volunteered to be a widow that I thought I had best do something about it.
I simply re-booted the router and job done. I thought a little reminder that a re-fresh is good for equipment but we don't always remember to do it.

Please be aware that the Kena/TIM user T&Cs have recently changed. Now, if you do not top up within 90 days you will return to a basic plan with no "offer". This means that if you were paying 9,99 per month for 230Gb the basic plan is 1Gb for the same price. To check if you are still on your plan log into your account on the App or computer. A few people have been affected by this change on their return to Italy as it was not widely communicated.
If you are away for several months at a time it is probably more cost effective to buy a new plan when you return.

I have been using Very Mobile for two months with very pleasing results. My previous provider as you know became less and less reliable in relation to signal strength and speed. With the current provider the signal has improved significantly. However there are a few things that you need to keep in mind when trying to get the best signal in your home.
Once you have the signal you need to make sure any wireless devices are not too far away from your router, as if they are, this can have a negative impact on quality. It can seem that signal strength and speed are poor when actually you can use repeaters and access points etc within your home with good results. Don't mistakenly believe that a signal is just a signal............help it reach it's full potential!

Don't forget to refresh to update your programmes, bring up the front screen, highlight one of the services, press the down button so it highlights the two arrows then press enter. This will update your programmes. Enjoy Eurovision!!!

If you have IPTV I am sorry I cannot be more specific about what is happening. I am however trying to find out the timeframe for the completion of the current upgrade . Trust me , I am as frustrated as you. It is a big job.....imagine transferring a sh*te load of data from one system to another an a multi national basis, with all of the data cleaning and transfer of accounts that goes with it. So please be patient. It is intended to improve the service.
As soon as I know anything I will share it.
