Doctors at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, have developed the world's first bionic eye, known as the Gennaris Bionic Vision System. This groundbreaking device aims to restore vision by bypassing damaged optic nerves and transmitting signals directly to the brain's visual cortex. The system comprises a miniature camera mounted on custom-designed headgear, a vision processor unit, and up to 11 wireless implants placed on the brain's surface. These implants deliver patterned electrical stimulation, enabling users to perceive visual information. Following successful animal trials, human clinical trials are set to commence in Melbourne, offering new hope for individuals with untreatable blindness.
