participated in IBM ZDAY's " Why New z/OS Users are Choosing Ansible for Automation" and “Working With and Securing Your Data with an Open Ecosystem on LinuxONE” sessions.
Migrating services from z/OS to open-source platforms (namely, Linux) surely takes advantage of thousands of open-source solutions, but when cloud is not an option, it also loads IT departments with an increased effort of management, as usually the target infrastructure counts hundreds of servers, both specializing in specific services and doubling in clusters to satisfy High Availability requirements.
IBM’s LinuxONE is a solution to ease the pain of management, while exploiting a true native Linux platform with different distros available and all the advantages of related technologies - containers just to name one.
Another way to modernization, while not moving from z/OS, goes through the Unix-like components now available on the Z platform – Unix System Services (USS) and z-Linux. Setting up automation with Ansible on z/OS is an impressive example of modernization: USS makes it simple, what years ago would have been a pain in the neck; the adoption of Ansible opens to heterogeneous platforms and solves the problem of getting rid of old-fashioned automation tools with 3270-like interfaces, not very attractive for the younger generations, while preserving the core functionalities on z/OS.

participated in IBM ZDAY's "Quantum Cryptography & The Future of Data Protection" session.
Most of algorithms that we use today require a very long time (years) to get broken, even with conventional supercomputers. On the other hand, quantum technology-based computers can break them in hours.
As quantum technology evolves, and quantum computing units get progressively more affordable than they are today, in a few years the same encrypted data, that we claim to be “unbreakable”, will be easily unlocked by the right algorithms running on a quantum computer. “Quantum cryptography” designates algorithms that can’t be broken even with the aid of a quantum computer – that is, the time required to break them will be still too long to be worth the try.
Cryptography applied today to data, that must be saved for 10-20 years to come, can’t help dealing with the threat of quantum computing. IBM helps both with algorithms developed in IBM’s labs, selected by independent actors as part of the standardization process, and with specific hardware components to effectively deploy today quantum-safe encryption on conventional computers.
