In Alto Adige c’è la tradizione per i bambini di celebrare la festa di San Martino, che cade oggi 11 novembre.

La leggenda narra che in una gelida notte d’autunno Martino, un soldato imperiale, mentre tornava a casa di notte incontra un mendicante coperto di soli stracci.
Martino decide di aiutarlo tagliando in due il suo mantello per donarlo al mendicante, affinché si riscaldi.

3ffen: a cooperative game for ethno-linguistic coexistence in South Tyrol (part 1)

My thesis project 3ffen is a project born from the need for integration between the Italian and German ethno-linguistic groups in South Tyrol, Italy.
The South Tyrolean system does not promote enough the meeting between the two groups, thus generating two parallel realities divided by an invisible wall.

Drawing on the precious ideas of Alexander Langer's writings, 3ffen is a cooperative game
which was born as a meeting and sharing project, which aims to unite and bring together children of Italian and German mother tongue, in order to overcome prejudices and divisions.

In collaboration with Langer elementary and middle school Alexander Lager, Bolzano.

3ffen: a cooperative game for ethno-linguistic coexistence in South Tyrol (part 2)

The children, divided into red and white team, will try to create two paths through the combination of graphics cards available, which will be on a grand scale, to be distributed on the floor.
The paths will then be physically crossed by the players of each group, through a spinner who will guide them from tile to tile.

Inside the route there are also blue obstacle tiles, symbols extracted from the texts of Alexander Langer: these are the bridge, the wall and the border.
These are the obstacle tiles to be overcome. Each child per team embodies a character; there will be the bridge builder, the wall wrecker and the frontier explorer.

3ffen: a cooperative game for ethno-linguistic coexistence in South Tyrol (part 3)

Children will have to cooperate in overcoming these obstacles, counting on the help of each member of the group. When a player gets stuck along the path on one of these tiles, he will request the help of the teammate responsible for that obstacle, who will free the passage by turning over the tile, which will reveal the resolved obstacle in order to pass. For example, the brick wall that blocks the road on one side and a pile of rubble on the other, the border from impassable to explorable and the bridge from open to joined.

The arrival point for both groups will be a large central bridge, which not only connects the two routes and establishes the common goal, but is also a metaphor for connecting two distant shores.
