SiI3132 SATA2 Driver – Version 1.2 Released: A Gift for Father's Day, in Honor of Jay Miner

Today, March 19th, is Father's Day in Italy (Festa del Papà) — and what better occasion to celebrate than by honoring the father of the Amiga himself, Jay Miner? The visionary engineer and chip designer who gave life to the Amiga back in 1985 deserves to be remembered not just with words, but with something tangible for the community he helped create.

For this reason, ACube Systems has chosen today to release version 1.2 of the SiI3132 SATA2 driver for AmigaOS 4.1 — a small tribute to Jay Miner's enduring legacy.

What's new in version 1.2:

- Performance & Code Efficiency — General code improvements for better overall performance and optimization.

- SCSI Command Handling — Error response management for SCSI commands has been significantly improved, resulting in greater robustness during operation.

- Burning Process — The handling of disc burning phases has been refined for improved reliability when working with CD/DVD drives.

As with the very first release back in October 2025 — unveiled as a special gift during the Amiga40 Germany event in Mönchengladbach to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Amiga — this update is completely free of charge. It has always been our intention to give back to this incredible community, and that spirit remains unchanged.

The driver continues to support HDDs, SSDs, and optical drives via SATA2 on PCIe cards based on the Silicon Image SiI3132 controller, delivering high performance and stability on AmigaOS 4.1.

Dear customers,

We would like to extend our warmest wishes for a joyful and prosperous New Year to everyone. May this 2026 bring us peace, happiness, and exciting news and developments for our beloved Amiga community.

It’s been over 19 years since the introduction of our first board, the Sam440ep. Throughout these years, this little board has proven to be one of the most stable platforms for running AmigaOS 4, and it’s still performing exceptionally well! However, some of its components are starting to show signs of age. In particular, the onboard M9 Graphic Chip may require some additional care due to its age. We strongly advise all our customers who still use the Sam440ep Mini ITX to add a fan to the M9 Graphic Chip as soon as possible. This will help the chip manage the high temperatures and ensure it continues to work without any issues.

We’ve found the perfect fan for this purpose. It’s a 30x30 fan that you can screw directly onto the M9 heatsink. As you can see in the picture below, connect the fan to connector J17. You’ll need to connect the red wire to pin 1 and the black wire to pin 4 (pins 2 and 3 should remain empty).

We all want this wonderful old board to continue to function well until the arrival of our new motherboard.

UBoot 2015.d for Sam440ep mini-itx and Sam440ep flex boards available

ACube Systems is pleased to announce a new release of the U-Boot firmware for its Sam440 line of motherboards.

Following the recent update for the Sam460, the Sam440 now also benefits from enhanced support, including compatibility with NVMe SSDs. Additionally, this update introduces support for Radeon RX and Radeon HD graphics cards.

This release represents a significant investment of time and resources. Nevertheless, we have chosen to offer it at the symbolic price of €3.99.

Highlights of this release include:

- Support for Radeon RX graphics cards (*)
- Improved support for Radeon HD graphics cards (*)
- NVMe SSD driver: boot directly from NVMe devices using a PCIe adapter (*)
- Driver for the PCIe SATA2 Silicon Image 3132 controller, with support for booting from SSDs and DVDs (*)
- Enhanced RAM access speed on Sam440ep-flex boards
- New graphical interface style
- Revised ‘sata’ command, now displaying more detailed information about drivers and connected devices

Features marked with an asterisk (*) require a PCI-to-PCIe bridge.

This groundbreaking achievement marks a significant milestone in the evolution of the Amiga platform. Thanks to recent advancements, users can now experience dramatically improved boot speeds and data access times by utilizing modern NVMe solid-state drives—bringing the Amiga into a new era of performance and reliability.

We are pleased to announce that, finally, after all the delays we suffered, all the remaining Sam460LE boards were delivered to us from the assembly line, and we are finalizing the QA and functional tests. After all the stress tests for every board are completed, we will start shipping the boards to customers.
We plan to start shipping at the end of next week.
