This video shows the tensile testing of two tension clamps for ABC overhead line cables, performed in NETCO’s Mechanical Laboratory.
The test was carried out in full compliance with EN 50483-1 and EN 50483-3 requirements for low-voltage aerial bundled cable accessories.
Specifically:
- The tensile load was applied using a calibrated tension machine at a smooth rate within the specified range of 5,000–7,500 N/min, as defined in Part 1 of the standard.
- The clamps were tested on a 54.6 mm² neutral messenger, covering the minimum and maximum cross-sections for which the clamps are designed.
- According to EN 50483-3, the tension clamps must withstand 90% of the messenger’s maximum breaking load (MBL) without slip or damage. For this cable, 90% MBL equals 14.94 kN.
In our test, the clamps sustained a load of 17.45 kN, exceeding the standard requirement and the messenger’s own breaking load of 16.6 kN, before eventual failure of the clamp.
This demonstrates that the NETCO’s suspension clamps provide high mechanical strength and reliability, fully meeting and surpassing EN 50483 specifications.
