- تأسست كدولة في عام 980 (ق.م) وهي من أقدم الدول في العالم.
- عرفت تاريخيا باسم (الحبشة) وكانت وجهة أول هجرة إسلامية في التاريخ.
- رسميا: جمهورية إثيوبيا الفيدرالية الديمقراطية.
- الموقع: في شرق القارة الإفريقية، وهي واحدة من دول القرن الإفريقي.
- المساحة: 1.104.300كم2.
- الحدود: يحدها من الشرق دولتي جيبوتي والصومال، ومن الشمال دولة إريتريا ومن الشمال الغربي دولة السودان، ومن الغرب دولة جنوب السودان ومن الجنوب الغربي دولة كينيا.
- العاصمة: أديس أبابا، تعرف أيضا بالزهرة الجديدة، أعلى مدينة في قارة إفريقيا.
- النظام السياسي: جمهورية برلمانية إتحادية.
- اليوم الوطني: 28 ماي 1991م.
- اللغة: اللغة الرسمية هي الأمهرية وأورومو، وتوجد أكثر من 82 لغة أخرى و200 لهجة. واللغة الإنجليزية هي اللغة الأجنبية الأساسية في المدارس.

- الديانة: مسيحيون أرثوذكس(43.8%) ومسلمون(31.3%).
- عدد السكان: 117.876.227 نسمة، ثاني أكبر دولة إفريقيو من حيث عدد السكان بعد نيجيريا.
- الاقتصاد: يعتمد بشكل أساسي على الزراعة والصناعة ومجال الخدمات وصيد الأسماك.
- تعتبر من أسرع البلدان غير المنتجة للنفط نموا في إفريقيا.
- أكبر منتج للبن في إفريقيا والخامس في جميع أنحاء العالم في الآونة الأخيرة.
- ثاني أكبر منتج للذرة في إفريقيا.
- من أكثر الدول إنتاجا لعسل النحل في إفريقيا.
- تحتل المرتبة الخامسة بين أفقر دول العالم.
- بها 9 مواقع للتراث العالمي لليونسكوحيث تعد كنائس لاليبيلا المحفورة في الصخور ومنتزه سيميان الوطني أقدم هذه المواقع.
- «أديس أبابا مركاتو» هو أكبر سوق مفتوح في الهواء الطلق في إفريقيا ويوجد في العاصمة اديس أبابا.
- سد النهضة أكبر سد في قارة إفريقيا وهو يقع على طول نهر النيل.
- النيل الأزرق المعروف أيضا باسم أباي هو أطول نهر في إثيوبيا، ينبع من بحيرة تانا يسير مسافةَ 1.450 كم في إثيوبيا.
- تحتوي على 70% من جبال قارة إفريقيا، لذلك
تلقب بـ(سقف القارة الإفريقية.).
- بحيرة الحمم البركانية الإثيوبية الواقعة في بركان إرتا ألي هي الأكثر إطالة في العالم حيث تم اكتشافها في عام 1906 وما زالت موجودة.
- العاصمة أديس أبابا خامس أعلى عاصمة في العالم، وأعلى عاصمة في افريقيا حيث تقع على ارتفاع 2355 م فوق مستوى سطح البحر.
- تأتي في المرتبة الخامسة عالميا من حيث عدد اللاجئين على أراضيها.
- يأتي اقتصادها في مصاف الاقتصادات الأسرع نموا بالعالم، ويعد الأسرع نموا على مستوى القارة الإفريقية حسب صندوق النقد الدولي.
