Company History:

Archrival of Microsoft Corporation, Sun Microsystems, Inc. focuses on network computing rather than desktop mainframes, designing and manufacturing its own software and hardware. A 1980s start-up company, Sun generated in excess of $10 billion in sales during the late 1990s, recording astounding success with its own computer chip, SPARC, and own operating system, Solaris. Sun pioneered the use of shared software and hardware components among competing workstation manufacturers in order to create industry standards. After making a reputation for itself as a designer of high-powered workstation computers and servers, Sun expanded its talents, positioning itself as an Internet and electronic-commerce specialist during the latter half of the 1990s. The company's seminal achievement was the introduction of Java technology, the first universal software platform that enabled developers to write applications once to run on any computer. The company maintained offices in 150 countries, selling its products and services to the telecommunications, manufacturing, education, financial, and government markets.

Founding

Sun began as a computer project designed by Andreas Bechtolsheim while he was a graduate student at Stanford. His computer was a modification of a relatively new kind of computer, the workstation, which, like the PC (personal computer), can be utilized by single users. The workstation, however, provides users with more power. Workstations are designed for network integration and equipped with high-resolution graphics, and are fast enough to handle demanding engineering and graphics tasks. Unlike the first workstations, which had been introduced to the market only the previous year by Apollo Computer, Bechtolsheim's workstation used off-the-shelf parts, thus making it more affordable.

Bechtolsheim not only shunned custom-made hardware, but also broke with the industry tradition of adhering to proprietary operating system software. Instead, he hoped to enable different workstation brands running on a common operating system to share data. AT&T's UNIX operating system was the obvious choice; it could operate on a wide variety of computers and was already very popular among scientists and engineers because it enabled users to perform several tasks on screen at once. He began selling licenses for his computer, called the Sun (which stood for Stanford University Network) at $10,000 each in 1981.

Within a year Bechtolsheim's project attracted the interest of Stanford M.B.A. graduates Vinod Khosla and Scott McNealy, each of whom had some experience in the computer business. They were named president and director of manufacturing, respectively, of Sun Microsystems, Inc., upon its founding in February 1982. Bechtolsheim, who was the brains behind the hardware, became vice-president of technology. One of the first people the founders hired was Bill Joy, a Berkeley Ph.D. well known for his design of a popular version of the UNIX operating system. His task was to design the company's software.

Sun's use of standard hardware components and standard operating system software produced short-term payoffs for the fledgling company. Sun's workstations, unlike those of industry pioneer Apollo, operated on UNIX and from the outset networked easily with the hardware and software already on the market. In addition, although Sun's design could easily be copied, the strategy of using existing technologies allowed Sun to enter the market quickly with a low-priced machine. Sales grew rapidly as a result. Within six months of incorporation the company became profitable.

Sun's first workstations, the Sun-1 and Sun-2, were instant successes, achieving $8 million in sales the first year, 80 percent of which came from sales to the university market. Sun's founders, however, had their eyes on the mainstream technical market, dominated at that time by the major computer companies. Sun's first big success in this area was the contract of them

The Blue Gene/P supercomputer at Argonne National Lab runs over 250,000 processors using normal data center air conditioning, grouped in 72 racks/cabinets connected by a high-speed optical network[1]
A supercomputer is a computer that has world-class[clarification needed] computational capacity. In 2015, such machines can perform quadrillions of floating point operations per second.[2]

Supercomputers were introduced in the 1960s, made initially, and for decades primarily, by Seymour Cray at Control Data Corporation (CDC), Cray Research and subsequent companies bearing his name or monogram. While the supercomputers of the 1970s used only a few processors, in the 1990s machines with thousands of processors began to appear and, by the end of the 20th century, massively parallel supercomputers with tens of thousands of "off-the-shelf" processors were the norm.[3][4] As of November 2014, China's Tianhe-2 supercomputer is the fastest in the world at 33.86 petaFLOPS (PFLOPS), or 33.86 quadrillion floating point operations per second.

Systems with massive numbers of processors generally take one of two paths: In one approach (e.g., in distributed computing), a large number of discrete computers (e.g., laptops) distributed across a network (e.g., the Internet) devote some or all of their time to solving a common problem; each individual computer (client) receives and completes many small tasks, reporting the results to a central server which integrates the task results from all the clients into the overall solution. In another approach, a large number of dedicated processors are placed in close proximity to each other (e.g. in a computer cluster); this saves considerable time moving data around and makes it possible for the processors to work together (rather than on separate tasks), for example in mesh and hypercube architectures.

The use of multi-core processors combined with centralization is an emerging trend; one can think of this as a small cluster (the multicore processor in a smartphone, tablet, laptop, etc.) that both depends upon and contributes to the cloud.[7][8]

Supercomputers play an important role in the field of computational science, and are used for a wide range of computationally intensive tasks in various fields, including quantum mechanics, weather forecasting, climate research, oil and gas exploration, molecular modeling (computing the structures and properties of chemical compounds, biological macromolecules, polymers, and crystals), and physical simulations (such as simulations of the early moments of the universe, airplane and spacecraft aerodynamics, the detonation of nuclear weapons, and nuclear fusion). Throughout their history, they have been essential in the field of cryptanalysis.

About AntiVirus

Anti-virus software is a program or set of programs that are designed to prevent, search for, detect, and remove software viruses, and other malicious software like worms, trojans, adware, and more.

These tools are critical for users to have installed and up-to-date because a computer without anti-virus software installed will be infected within minutes of connecting to the internet. The bombardment is constant, with anti-virus companies update their detection tools constantly to deal with the more than 60,000 new pieces of malware created daily.

There are several different companies that build and offer anti-virus software and what each offers can vary but all perform some basic functions:

Scan specific files or directories for any malware or known malicious patterns
Allow you to schedule scans to automatically run for you
Allow you to initiate a scan of a specific file or of your computer, or of a CD or flash drive at any time.
Remove any malicious code detected –sometimes you will be notified of an infection and asked if you want to clean the file, other programs will automatically do this behind the scenes.
Show you the ‘health’ of your computer
Always be sure you have the best, up-to-date security software installed to protect your computers, laptops, tablets and smartphones.

If you are developing web application which aims to work even while users are offline, this feature would be really helpful. To enable the Offline Mode, head to chrome://flags/ -offline-mode via the address bar and enable the “Enable Offline Cache Mode” option.

Don’t forget to restart Chrome for the effect to take place.

5. Drag And Drop HTML Into The Editor
Sometimes you need to copy a HTML element to your editor. Instead of manually copying and pasting it on your text editor, you can simply drag the DOM and drop into the editor.

Currently, you can only drag one element, and its child elements won’t follow. Hopefully this will be improved on in the next update.

6. Auditing CSS
You can now also audit your CSS, such as inspecting useless style rules which are not being used on the web page. To do so, go to the “Audits” tab and click “Run” to start auditing the CSS. You will see a list of classes/selectors that are not used on the current page, as follows.

7. Adding SourceMap
With Source Map, you can see the unbuilt or the uncompiled version of CSS or JavaScript (JS). This feature is particularly useful for developers who compose styles or JS using Pre-processors like Sass, LESS, or CoffeeScript. With the Source Map enabled, you can find location of code on generated JS or CSS on a certain line and column number. The latest version of Chrome allows you to add Source Map manually.

To do this, make sure that you’re in the source panel then open a file. After that, right-click and select Add Source Map. to add the .map file

Microsoft's latest try to save Windows Phone: Make Windows 10 ROMs for Android

In a 5 years of existence, Windows Phone (formerly famous as Windows Mobile) has managed to hoard usually 3 percent mobile marketplace share. Microsoft’s tiled handling complement is still struggling to give Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS a critical challenge. But if we suspicion a Redmond-based association should be looking for an exit plan by now, we will be astounded with what Microsoft has in mind.

Over a final few months, we schooled that Microsoft is increasingly endangered about shutting a Windows Phone’s barbarous “app gap” problem. Referred to as a Plan A, as per a news by Mary Jo Foley, Microsoft intends to do this by introducing support for concept apps that will concede developers to fast spin their Windows applications into Windows Phone apps with minimal effort.

The Plan B reveals that Microsoft is considering either it should rekindle a Android affair. Many would wish a association to make Android phone handsets formed on AOSP — like Nokia did with a X lineup of array — though a news remarkable that Microsoft doesn’t intend to embankment Windows Phone platform. Instead, a association was reportedly meditative of adding support for Android apps on Windows Phone. Now we’re training of a Plan C that a association rather plainly spoke about usually recently.

Earlier this week, Microsoft announced that it will be releasing a Windows 10 OS in Summer (likely by a finish of August) in 190 countries in 111 languages. On a blog post, a association also announced that it had entered into a partnership with China’s tip mobile manufacturer Xiaomi to exam Windows 10. This is what a association had creatively noted.

“Through a new module with Xiaomi, one of a tip smartphone distributors in a world, a name organisation of Xiaomi Mi 4 energy users will be invited to assistance exam Windows 10 and minister to a destiny recover after this year. These energy users will have a event to download a Windows 10 Technical Preview — installing it and providing their feedback to Microsoft”.

It led us to trust that Xiaomi would maybe launch a Windows 10 for Phones-powered reflection of a Android flagship Mi 4 smartphone. But it seems Microsoft has something wholly opposite in mind. The Redmond-based association is building a Windows 10 ROM that could be flashed (installed) on Android smartphones.

Hugo Barra, Xiaomi’s VP of general is now shedding some-more light on this. “Microsoft is operative on a build of Windows 10 privately for Mi 4 devices. This Windows 10 build will not be using on tip of Android nor be accessible as a dual-boot option”, Barra pronounced to drive divided a cloud of confusion. “A tiny series of Mi 4 energy users from a Xiaomi Forum in China who select to take partial in this initial module will have to manually re-flash their Mi 4 inclination with this Windows 10 ROM, in a same approach they would re-flash other Android ROMs”.

Barra remarkable that is an initial module by Microsoft with Mi fans village in China, and as of now it is usually holding place there. “welcomes Microsoft group members to correlate directly with members of a Xiaomi Forum in China”.

This isn’t a initial time a association has built a ROM of a handling complement that could be flashed on an Android smartphone. In a past, we’ve seen Ubuntu recover a ROM for Android smartphones. There are several successful business models using on identical arrangements. Cyanogen Inc, that creates blurb Android-based Cyanogen OS also offers CyanogenMod ROM for Android. The build has some-more than 12 million active monthly users.

Will this work? We don’t know usually yet. Just a proclamation of Windows Phone ancillary Android apps someday had many constant users demonstrate their condemnation on forums. Besides, a Windows 10 ROM on an Android smartphone doesn’t seem to residence a “app gap” issue. Unless Microsoft adds support for Android apps, it is tough to suppose how it will succeed. Sure, many hobbyists will, in a future, barter their Android OS with windows 10........
