Our fingerprints may not be unique, claims AI

There is a belief that each fingerprint on one person's hand is completely unique but that is now being challenged by research from Columbia University.
A team at the US university trained an AI tool to examine 60,000 fingerprints to see if it could work out which ones belonged to the same individual.
The researchers claim the technology could identify, with 75-90% accuracy, whether prints from different fingers came from one person.
But they are not sure how it works.
"We don't know for sure how the AI does it," admitted Prof Hod Lipson, a roboticist at Columbia University who supervised the study.
Forensics
The researchers think the AI tool was analysing the fingerprints in a different way to traditional methods - focusing on the orientation of the ridges in the centre of a finger rather than the way in which the individual ridges end and fork which is known as minutiae.
"It is clear that it isn't using traditional markers that forensics have been using for decades," said Prof Lipson. "It seems like it is using something like the curvature and the angle of the swirls in the centre."
Prof Lipson said both he and Gabe Guo, an undergraduate student, were both surprised by the outcome.
"We were very sceptical... we had to check and double check," he said.
That may not be news to others in the field.
Graham Williams, professor of forensic science at Hull University, said the idea of unique fingerprints had never been set in stone.
"We don't actually know that fingerprints are unique," he said. "All we can say is that as far as we are aware, no two people have yet to demonstrate the same fingerprints."

What are Isolates?
To really understand isolates, first we need to go further back and make sure we know the answer to these 2 questions:
What is the difference between Processor Cores and Threads?
Core is a physical hardware component whereas thread is the virtual component that manages the tasks of the core. Cores enable completion of more work at a time, while threads enhance computational speed and throughput. Cores use content switching but threads use multiple processors for executing different processes.
What is the difference between concurrent and parallel processing?
Concurrency is when two or more tasks can start, run, and complete in overlapping time periods. It doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll ever both be running at the same instant. For example, multitasking on a single-core machine. Parallelism is when tasks literally run at the same time, e.g., on a multicore processor.

Scientists Made data can improve the Healthcare and Treatment.

University of Copenhagen researchers have developed software able to disguise sensitive data such as those used for machine learning in health care applications. The method protects privacy while making datasets available for the development of better treatments.

A key element in modern health care is collecting and analyzing data for a large group of patients to discover patterns. Which patients benefit from a given treatment? And which patients are likely to experience side effects?
Such data must be protected, or else the privacy of individuals is broken. Furthermore, breaches will harm general trust, leading to fewer people giving their consent to take part. Researchers at the Department of Computer Science, University of Copenhagen, have found a clever solution.
"We have seen several cases in which data was anonymized and then released to the public, and yet researchers managed to retrieve the identities of participants. Since many other sources of information exist in the public domain, an adversary with a good computer will often be able to deduct the identities even without names or citizen codes."
"We have developed a practical and economical way to protect datasets when used to train machine learning models," says Ph.D. student Joel Daniel Andersson.
