Model predictive control (MPC) has been a leading technology in advanced process control for over 30 years. It is a control algorithm based on model and online application optimization performance. It is one of the most popular control strategies in areas involving complex dynamic systems such as Robotics. This article briefly talks about the theory behind MPC and the benefits provided by it. It also talks about some new upcoming variants of MPC.
