A torn iPhone cover taught me a powerful lesson about business positioning.
Well, over the last 1.5-2 years, many small real-life incidents have quietly shaped the way I think about business, customers and growth. I am now trying to put each of these lessons into words here for the benefit of all.
Some months ago, I was taking a late-night walk at Nariman Point with my cousin.
As always, the conversation drifted from family to business, from business to life, and back to business again.
At one point, he noticed my iPhone cover.
It was slightly torn from one side.
I had accidentally dropped my phone, and although the phone survived, the cover wasn't as lucky.
He looked at it and immediately said:
There are plenty of mobile accessory shops on the way to Charni Road. In fact, there is an entire stretch of them.
And then came the sentence that stayed with me.
"But don't buy it from just any shop."
"Buy it from that one shop which sells ONLY mobile covers."
I smiled and asked: "Why? Aren't all of them selling the same thing?"
His answer was instant.
"Because that's their speciality."
That was it.
A simple sentence. But a profound business lesson.
Customers don't just buy products.
Customers buy confidence.
And confidence comes from specialization.
When we need a heart surgery, we don't look for a general physician.
When we have a legal dispute, we don't look for a lawyer who does a little bit of everything.
We search for specialists.
Because specialists signal expertise and trust.
Specialists signal predictability.
And suddenly, I realized something about AI.
The AI industry today is filled with tools that can do a little bit of everything.
Write content.
Generate images.
Analyze data.
Create presentations.
And while that sounds impressive, many businesses still struggle with one simple question:
"Can AI actually help me grow my sales?
That question became the foundation of our thinking.
Instead of trying to build an AI that does everything for everyone...
We decided to build Richa AI that becomes exceptional at one thing.
Sales.
Richa AI was designed as a specialist.
Not a generic AI assistant.
A Sales AI.
An AI that understands the complete sales lifecycle.
From the first enquiry to the final conversion.
From qualification to closure.
An AI that can:
✔ Speak with prospects
✔ Answer customer queries
✔ Follow up consistently
✔ Manage CRM activities
✔ Track opportunities
✔ Support channel partners
✔ Help businesses close more sales
And it is FREE..
Because businesses don't need more technology.
They need more revenue that comes from Sales.
Result ? Richa AI has 3.2 lakh clients globally trusting AI for sales.
That night, what started as a discussion about a torn phone cover ended up becoming a reminder of one of the most powerful principles in business:
If you want to be remembered, be different.
If you want to be trusted, be specialized.
If you want to grow, solve one problem exceptionally well before trying to solve ten.
Sometimes the biggest business lessons don't come from boardrooms.
They come from a late-night walk, a torn iPhone cover, and a casual conversation with family.
