“The cutting down of the Chinar tree by the department is truly unfortunate. The Chinar is a symbol of our cultural and natural heritage, and removing such a historic tree should never be the first option. Our highways may look polished and well-designed, yet it still takes us hours to reach our destinations because of constant traffic halts and mismanagement by the authorities. So what difference does it really make if a Chinar is cut down in the name of development, when we continue to live in the same mess? Development should mean progress, not the loss of our heritage.”

The Lasjan Bypass to Mehjoor Bridge road, one of the most important connecting routes in the area, continues to suffer from years of neglect and official indifference. While the adjoining link roads have been macadamized, the main stretch itself remains in a deplorable condition — riddled with potholes, uneven surfaces, and patches of broken asphalt.

Commuters using this route daily describe the experience as both frustrating and unsafe. The road, which serves as a crucial artery for thousands of vehicles, reflects a clear mismatch between planning and ex*****on. Despite repeated public appeals, the authorities have yet to initiate proper repairs or resurfacing.

Residents say the situation perfectly embodies an old Kashmiri phrase: “Gurr Faqai Te Taangas Rang,” meaning a patchwork of chaos and neglect without purpose or beauty. The phrase captures the current state of the road — a symbol of poor governance and the lack of attention given to vital infrastructure.

People in the area urge the government to prioritize this long-ignored stretch, reminding officials that maintaining the main road is just as important as beautifying its link roads. Until then, the Lasjan–Mehjoor Bridge route stands as a testament to unfulfilled promises and administrative apathy.

It is hereby informed that the Smart Bus Service has started operating from Panthachowk to Bakshi Stadium via Lasjan, Soitang, Vethpara Padshahi Bagh, Jawahar Nagar with effect from today.

The service will be available daily from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM for the convenience of the general public.

The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has recently installed smart meters and introduced smart wiring systems to modernize electricity consumption tracking. While this initiative aims to improve efficiency and transparency, the department has overlooked a crucial aspect—public awareness and education.

Despite the introduction of these smart meters, KPDCL has failed to organize seminars, workshops, or webinars to educate consumers about their usage. The lack of proper guidance has left many people confused about how to check their electricity consumption and units through the designated mobile apps. Common citizens, who are not familiar with digital utility management, are struggling to navigate these systems.

Adding to the confusion, these apps have yet to be officially launched by the department. This has created further difficulties for consumers, who are unable to track their electricity usage efficiently. Without proper guidance, people are left to figure out the system on their own, leading to frustration and complaints.

KPDCL should prioritize awareness campaigns, provide clear instructions, and ensure that these apps are fully functional before expecting consumers to adopt them. The success of any smart system depends not only on its installation but also on how well users can interact with it. It is high time that KPDCL takes responsibility and addresses these gaps for the convenience of the public.
