Building digital confidence, one step at a time

On 28 November, Markzin facilitated a Digital Literacy training for women participants as part of an ETP-led programme. The session offered a strong reminder that meaningful digital inclusion is built through patience, practice, and people-centred learning.

Led by Rajarshi Singha (CTO) and Suman Sarkar (COO), the training followed a hands-on approach where participants worked directly on their own smartphones. Key concepts such as email usage, cyber security, and everyday digital communication were introduced gradually and reinforced through real-time practice.

At the start of the day, many participants expressed uncertainty. Some were writing email for the first time, while others were cautious about online safety. As the session progressed, confidence grew visibly—questions increased, peer-to-peer support emerged, and participants began applying new skills independently.

We would like to sincerely acknowledge Usha Lakra for her invaluable support, translation, and on-ground coordination, which played a crucial role in making the session accessible and effective.

We are thankful to ETP for the opportunity to collaborate on this initiative and for their continued commitment to strengthening financial and digital inclusion through such programmes.

We are grateful to collaborate on initiatives that strengthen digital confidence through practical, human-centred learning.

Every founder learns this lesson eventually. Welcome to startup life.

A product is never truly finished. The real purpose of a startup is not to ship a polished product but to discover a repeatable and scalable business model.

The first goal is Product Market Fit. That begins with validating core assumptions through customer discovery before building anything. An MVP is not a final product. It is the smallest set of features required to start learning from real users as quickly and cheaply as possible. Speed of learning matters more than completeness.

Early traction is less about growth and more about signal. Qualitative feedback, user behavior, and retention tell you far more than vanity metrics. Many successful startups look broken or incomplete at this stage because they are optimized for insight, not perfection.

Once Product Market Fit is achieved, the focus shifts from searching to executing and scaling. Priorities change from asking “should we build this?” to “how do we build this reliably and repeatedly?” At this point, systems, processes, and technical quality start to matter more.

Even then, the product does not stop changing. Markets evolve, customer expectations rise, and competitors respond. Continuous iteration is not a phase of startup life. It is the job.

When it comes to digital inclusion, we’ve realised it all starts with one simple thing—trust.

Trust in people’s capacity to take the first step, to learn, to lead, and to transform their own lives.

Working with women and youth from Assam’s Tea Garden Communities has been one of our most eye-opening experiences. We’ve learnt that before we talk about devices, apps, or training modules, we must first understand their world—their daily realities, their challenges, and their dreams.

And then, we help them believe, “Yes, we can do this.”

Because once that belief takes root, change happens almost naturally.

Sometimes, just a couple of hours of interaction and handholding is enough to light the spark. That’s why we feel digital literacy should not be confined to classrooms. The real magic happens at the last mile—in the villages, in the tea gardens, in the spaces where people can openly share what they truly need and aspire to.

In the end, digital literacy is not just about skills. It’s about giving people safe, responsible access to the power of digital innovations—so they can write their own stories of change.

It’s all about ‘Connecting people with technology’, and we developed a system of doing that in a systematic manner. At Markzin, it’s not only the technology innovation but the actual requirement of people that guides us to develop digital solutions to bring changes in the lives and livelihoods of people. Our recent technology-based solution, UNNATEA, resonates with the spirit of addressing the ‘actual need’ at the community level. All aspects of UNNATEA are tuned to the ‘People’ for whom the solution is made… the Tea Garden Workers in Assam.
Thanks to Ethical Tea Partnership (ETP) for taking us on board in this great initiative of empowering the Tea Garden Communities through digital connection and innovations!

Across Assam’s lush tea gardens, thousands of women sustain India’s vibrant tea industry – they are skilled, dedicated and essential to its success. Yet, when it comes to accessing government entitlements, welfare schemes, and opportunities to develop new skills to lead their families and comm...
