PGBOUNCER — Our Move Towards Scalable Multi-Tenant Architecture 🚀

As we move from building individual applications to developing scalable SaaS products, database architecture becomes a critical part of the system.

For a multi-tenant application, multiple clients can generate hundreds or thousands of requests simultaneously.

Instead of allowing every backend request to create a direct connection with PostgreSQL, we are introducing PgBouncer as a connection-pooling layer between our application and database.

Backend → PgBouncer → PostgreSQL

PgBouncer efficiently manages and reuses database connections, reducing unnecessary connection overhead and helping PostgreSQL handle high levels of concurrent application traffic more efficiently.

This becomes an important architectural component as we build applications designed for multiple tenants, higher concurrency and future scalability.

From a single-application mindset → to scalable SaaS architecture.

This is one of the architectural improvements we are implementing as part of our upcoming Buildcore application development.

🚀 Why Did We Change Our Tech Stack?

When we started our product, we built it for a single-business model.

Our initial technology stack was:

🖥️ Frontend: React + Vite
⚙️ Backend: Python Flask
🗄️ Database: MongoDB

But as our product evolved, our business requirements evolved too.

We are now building it as a Multi-Business Platform — where a single business owner can manage multiple businesses from one software.

To support this new architecture, we upgraded our entire stack:

⚛️ React + Vite → Next.js
We moved to Next.js to leverage Server-Side Rendering (SSR) and build a better architecture for scalability and performance.

⚡ Flask → FastAPI
We moved our backend to FastAPI after encountering vulnerability/security concerns in our previous Flask setup, while also moving toward a modern, high-performance API architecture.

🐘 MongoDB → PostgreSQL
With the shift from a single-business application to a multi-business, role-based system, we needed a stronger relational data model with structured relationships, constraints and transactions. That's why PostgreSQL became the better fit.

This wasn't just a tech stack change.

It was a change driven by the evolution of our product. 📈
