NASA has released one of the scariest space images ever taken. The image of astronaut Bruce McCandless II floating in the black vacuum of space with the blue surface of Earth looming beneath him has enthralled netizens. The photograph was shot almost four decades ago, in February 1984, when McCandless II walked off of the Challenger space shuttle to prepare for a satellite-repair mission. He was said to be floating with nothing except his Manned Maneuvering Unit to keep him alive. McCandless became the first man in history to float entirely untethered in space.
