CSI COEP Student Chapter, under the Department of Computer Engineering and Information Technology, conducted a 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐨𝐧 𝐖𝐞𝐛 𝐂𝐫𝐚𝐰𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠, which yet again proved to be a successful event.

𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗞𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗿 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗮 and 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗞𝘂𝗹𝗸𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶 from C-DAC Pune introduced the students to the basic terminology and theory behind Web Crawling and Scraping, followed by a demonstration of a web crawler in action.

This was followed by an enlightening hands-on session conducted by 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝘆 𝗚𝗮𝘁 from FireEye, who started with bare basics and underlying principles behind web scraping. He taught the students to manually scrape web pages, as well as demonstrated the use of professional tools involved in the same.

At the end of the workshop, students were able to create a rudimentary web crawler and see it send and receive data.

An action packed day indeed!

The Department of Computer and Information Technology under the aegis of CSI COEP Student Chapter organized a talk by 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗜𝘀𝗿𝗮𝗲𝗹 𝗞𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗻 who is a professor emeritus at 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗰𝗵𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘁𝘁𝘀 𝗔𝗺𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁. Prof. Koren delivered a talk on “𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗔𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲".
He talked about moving towards asymmetric core architectures in order to reduce energy consumption. He elaborated on types of asymmetric core architectures followed by a new self-morphing core. The students got an insight into the architecture of a self-morphing core and its benefits. Prof. Koren also discussed the results of the experiments on adaptive multicore architectures and concluded that in-order morphing gives a power-saving increase of 33% and increase in performance by 16%. The talk concluded with a Q&A segment.
