A little late to the LogoArchive party and a 'little' late to posting on here too. But hey, its Monday ya'll.

So here's a curated collection of logos I've designed for founders over the years.

Logo design was my first love. It still is.

I love the challenge of distilling an idea, a story, a belief, or an ambition into a single symbol. Some are obvious. Some reveal themselves over time.

To me, the best marks spark curiosity.

What does it mean?

Why was it designed that way?

What's the story behind it?

Over the years, that curiosity led me deeper into the world of brand identity design. Because while a logo may be the starting point, it's often the first chapter of a much bigger story.

And while I love crafting a mark, what excites me most is building the ecosystem around it. The stories, systems, experiences, and details that bring a brand to life.

Are your e-Book fonts licensed?📖😎

Does your e-Book have an e-Pub license?

Introducing Part 4 of a 6 part series on different font licenses!

✅ e-Pub licenses are simply put - fonts that you can embed within any e-Publication and that includes e-Books!

✅ With the rise of e-Books especially today on Instagram, one of the biggest things one needs to be aware of - is e-pub font licenses.

✅ It's different from a Desktop or Web font license because you cannot download it for use in any desktop software nor use it in a website. It's not restricted to per machine use because it's only applicable if you are going to embed fonts in an e-book.

✅ Now do remember that these are just guidelines. All fonts have their own license documents which come within each folder every time you download it. I highly recommend you read it especially if you are planning to create and sell e-Book.

WHAT IS AN APP FONT LICENSE?📲

Introducing a Part 3 of a 6 part series on different font licenses!

✅ App Font licenses are simply put - fonts that you can embed within an app.

✅ Doesn't matter the OS or if the app is going to be used on a mobile, tablet or desktop.

✅ Its different from a Desktop or Web font license because you cannot download it for use in any desktop software nor use it in a website. Its not restricted to a per machine use because it's on an app.

✅ However it does have two factors you need to look into when selecting this license -

1️⃣ The number of application titles that will use the font.

2️⃣ The maximum number of app downloads permitted by your license across any platform.

✅ Now do remember that these are just guidelines. All fonts have their own license documents which come within each folder every time you download it. I highly recommend you read it especially if it is for a commercial project.

✅ You can also check the font creator on google and get in touch with them for more clarity.

WHAT IS A WEBFONT LICENSE?👨‍💻

Introducing a Part 2 of a 6 part series on different font licenses! 😎

✅ Web Font licenses are simply put - fonts that you can embed within a website code or used in digital advertising. They can be either hosted on your own server or on an external server.

✅ Its different from a Desktop font license because you cannot download it for use in any desktop software. Its not restricted to a per machine use because it's on the internet.

✅ However it does have two factors you need to look into when selecting this license -

1️⃣ How many URLs will use the font 2️⃣ How many times will the font be loaded into a browser.

🙏Now do remember that these are just guidelines. All fonts have their own license documents which come within each folder every time you download it. I highly recommend you read it especially if it is for a commercial project.

✅ You can also check the font creator on google and get in touch with them for more clarity.

WHAT IS A DESKTOP FONT LICENSE?

Introducing a Six part series on different font licenses!

I was going to place it all in one post but boy o boy was that turning out to be a brainfull. So I decided to share it with you in a way that's easier to consume and understand.😎

Desktop fonts are simply put - fonts that you can download and use in any software on your computer or laptop.🖥

✅ Now do remember that these are just guidelines. All fonts have their own license documents which come within each folder every time you download it. I highly recommend you read it especially if it is for a commercial project.

✅ You can also check the font creator on google and get in touch with them for more clarity.

✅ Trust me, this will help your brand massively in the long term especially with clients too.

An FMCG brand that I helped brand design for, used a specific font which was sourced from the type foundry. The type foundry have now put it up on their own website showcasing how it was used. That's additional publicity not just for the brand but also for me as a brand designer.

HOW TO PROTECT YOUR BRAND FONTS?
PART 1😎

Do you know how you spend hours searching for the right image to match your carousel or project? You search for royalty free imagery or double check licenses to make sure your images can be used commercially?🧐

Have you thought about that when downloading Fonts?🤯

Better yet, did you think the FREE Fonts have no licenses?🤯

Well I didn't either! Till a few years ago when I stumbled on it by chance and boy! did it change my approach to using typefaces!

(Btw, here's an insight - Typefaces and Fonts are two different things. Ill cover that in Part 2!)😁

So these are the 6 questions you need to ask yourself when you are looking to download that awesome font -

1️⃣. Who is it for?

2️⃣. What is it for?

3️⃣. Do you plan to modify or customise the font?

4️⃣. How many PC's are going to use the font?

5️⃣. Do you want to distribute or resell it as a font on your website or another portal where you will earn income on every sale?

and the most important one of all,

✅. Are you ready to risk your credibility by not checking the license?

Its important that you answer these before you download that font, because fonts have different license depending on how you answer these 6.

IS YOUR BRAND FONT LEGAL?🤔

⁣the one you've just downloaded for a branding project for your client ?⁣

How can you protect your client and yourself?⁣🤓

✅ By using fonts with the appropriate usage licensing. ⁣

❓The reason the client was served a legal notice from the type foundry was because the font wasn't allowed for commercial use.⁣

✅ Fonts have intellectual property rights like images, art, music or literature. ⁣
⁣
✅ Each have different licenses that depend on how and where you use it.⁣
⁣
✅ Even FREE Fonts have licenses. Yup. ⁣
⁣
✅ Some are only for Personal Use and cannot be used for Commercial projects like designing branding for a big client.⁣
⁣
How can we be more aware of it?⁣
⁣
I highly recommend always asking these questions when you are looking to download fonts - ⁣
⁣
1️⃣. Who is it for?⁣
Personal Use or Commercial Use?⁣

2️⃣. What is it for?⁣
A Logo. Print. Web. App. eBook. Server?⁣
⁣
3️⃣. How many computers will work on the design?⁣
More than 1 machine means more licenses. 1 = 1, 5 = 5, 100 = 100⁣
⁣
4️⃣. and most important of them all.
Am I ready to risk my credibility by not checking the license?⁣
⁣

IS THE NIKE LOGO GREAT BECAUSE....
OF IT'S DESIGN ?🧐
OR BECAUSE OF ITS BRAND VALUES ?🤔

In 1971 a student, Carolyn Davidson designed the 'Swoosh' long before the 'Nike' name was conceived by Phil Knight & Bill Bowerman. They had shortlisted two other names - Dimension Six and Falcon!

We have all heard of the legendary story of how the logo was designed for $35. But here's the other part, it was done in a rush as the logo had to be sent to Mexico to be printed on an order of 3000 shoes. When Carolyn wanted to refine the logo further, Phil said, “We’re out of time. It’ll have to do.”

and that's how the Nike Logo came into being.

Phil and Bob knew that the Nike brand wasn't just the logo but the culture they were cultivating behind it.

They understood and invested heavily to create, grow and drive the famous Just Do It brand culture globally by investing over $3+ Billion dollars p.a for branding.🤑

Spread across various promotional channels and have been at the forefront of promotional innovation, the Nike logo is today valued at $26 Billion!🤑

No wonder the Nike brand account is one of the most sought after accounts for branding agencies around the world.

IS YOUR BRAND NAME IMPORTANT?🤔

Does it really need to have meaning?🧐

Maybe? Maybe Not?😁

A brand name that has meaning relevant to the brand, product or service can definitely help build the brand story.

But is that the only requirement? Does it need to be memorable? unique? short?

Look at these brands -

✅ Starbucks - sell coffee.

✅ Apple - sell technology.

✅ Amazon - sell everything.

✅ Ikea - sell furniture.

Is their name relevant? unique? catchy?

Or are we biased today because we have grown with their brand story?

We use their products? They have become a part of human culture?

When a brand resolves a need and emotionally connects with their customer, the name becomes synonymous as a solution provider for that need. The name doesnt matter anymore.💯

Now, the story behind the name becomes legendary and many a time it may not even be true but it drives the cultural experience of that brand.🔥

In my opinion, that's the power of branding.😎
