Heartbreaking Tragedy in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir! 💔
Today a horrific terrorist attack shook the serene valley of Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in Jammu & Kashmir’s Anantnag district. At least 28 lives were tragically lost, with over a dozen others injured, in what is being described as one of the deadliest attacks in the region since the 2019 Pulwama strike.
The attack took place in Baisaran Valley, a picturesque meadow often called "Mini Switzerland," where tourists were enjoying a peaceful afternoon. Around 3 PM, 5-6 armed terrorists, reportedly linked to The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), opened indiscriminate fire on unarmed tourists. Chilling reports reveal the attackers checked victims’ identities, asked religious questions, and even forced some to recite the Kalma before shooting. Among the victims were two foreigners, a Karnataka businessman, a naval officer, and tourists from Maharashtra, alongside local Kashmiris.
Eyewitness accounts are gut-wrenching. One survivor recounted, “We were eating bhel puri when two men approached, said ‘he doesn’t look Muslim,’ and shot my husband.” The brutality has left families shattered and the nation in mourning. Military helicopters were deployed to evacuate the injured, and security forces have launched a massive operation to neutralize the perpetrators.
National Response:
PM Narendra Modi condemned the attack, vowing, “Those behind this heinous act will not be spared!” He directed Union Home Minister Amit Shah to visit the site.
J&K CM Omar Abdullah called the attack “larger than anything we’ve seen targeting civilians in recent years,” labeling the terrorists “animals.”
President Droupadi Murmu termed it a “dastardly and inhuman act,” offering condolences to the bereaved families.
Protests erupted in Doda and Poonch, with locals holding candlelight marches in Srinagar to mourn the loss and condemn the violence.
Global Condolences:
US Vice President JD Vance, visiting India at the time, expressed solidarity, saying, “Usha and I are heartbroken by the devastating attack in Pahalgam.” Former US President Donald Trump also extended sympathies to PM Modi and India.
This attack, timed just before the Amarnath Yatra, has raised concerns about security in the region, especially after claims of declining terror incidents post the 2019 abrogation of Article 370. Experts suggest it reflects desperation from terror groups amid J&K’s growing peace and tourism boom.
Let’s Stand Together:
Our hearts go out to the victims’ families, and we pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. Share this post to raise awareness and condemn terrorism in all its forms. Let’s unite for peace and justice in Kashmir and beyond.
