The Cisco 2014 Annual Security Report has revealed that 99 out of every 100 mobile devices which have fallen prey to mobile malware in 2013 are Android devices. Apple devices on the other hand have had a much better faring in the report. The rate at which Android devices are going down on the report stem from the simple fact that these devices on the whole have seen tremendous rise in the market, with Malware following them on close heels.

The report claims that the Android platform has a target of 71 per cent of Web-delivered malware, however only about 1.2 per cent of the Web-attacks are target-specific that redirect users on to other websites and phishing sites. They in turn target the personal accounts of people.
Further, the most highly found malware on Android devices is Andr/Qdplugin-A that is introduced to devices in the form of a legal app. It is not found on the Google Play Store but on other unofficial app stores. Users who stick to buying and downloading apps from the Google Play store are less likely to be hit by such attacks, says Cisco.
Meanwhile, Apple devices are apparently 'safer' in the report given the fact that users stick to downloading apps from the official iTunes store.
The Cisco 2014 Annual Security Report also detailed other findings, such as Web exploits (91 percent of which were targeted at the Java platform), and types of malware (64 per cent are Trojans, 20 per cent are adware).
