Apple has shared the official teaser trailer for “Messi’s World Cup: The Rise of a Legend,” the highly anticipated four-part documentary event from SMUGGLER Entertainment, tracking the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner through his sensational career, including five FIFA World Cup appearances and his FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 win, in one of the most exciting finals in history.

In his own words, Lionel Messi tells the definitive story of his incredible career with the Argentina national football team, providing an intimate and unprecedented look at his quest for a legacy-defining World Cup victory.

“Messi’s World Cup: The Rise of a Legend” highlights the thrilling story of the planet’s top living athlete as well as that of his loyal supporters across Argentina and those who made the pilgrimage across the globe. The series also features the most personal interviews to date with Messi, alongside conversations with teammates, coaches, competitors, devout fans and commentators testifying to the incredible influence and impact he has on a nation and world stage, along with the grace, fortitude and willpower he has exhibited throughout his career. The docuseries charts the dramatic path from his first match with the Argentina national football team to carrying the weight of a country on his shoulders through several elusive World Cup wins, leading to his early retirement in 2016 and, ultimately, the comeback to become a FIFA World Cup champion and be crowned the 2022 tournament’s best player.

“Messi’s World Cup: The Rise of a Legend” is executive produced by Emmy Award winner Tim Pastore (“Free Solo,” “Jane”), Emmy and Tony Award winners Patrick Milling Smith and Brian Carmody, and Emmy Award winner Matt Renner (“Free Solo,” “Limitless with Chris Hemsworth”) of SMUGGLER Entertainment, alongside Jenna Millman (“The Dropout,” “Tiger”) and Juan Camilo Cruz (“City of Ghosts,” “In Her Hands”). The series is produced for Apple by SMUGGLER Entertainment and in association with Pegsa.

The series is set to premiere globally on February 21, 2024.

Apple has halted online sales of the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 in the United States.

Earlier this week, the company announced that it would stop online sales at 3pm on December 21 and retail sales after December 24 to comply with an import ban ordered by the International Trade Commission. Apple has been found guilty of infringing on patents held by Masimo Corporation and Cercacor Laboratories, Inc. with its blood oxygen feature.

Technically, President Biden has until December 25th to veto the ITC’s ruling; however, we’ve haven’t seen any signals to suggest that will happen. If Biden does not veto the ruling, Apple says it will “take all measures to return Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 to customers in the U.S. as soon as possible.”

Notably, the Apple Watch is still available at third party retailers. The Apple Watch Series 9 is currently on sale at Amazon.com for $329 (down from $399) and the Apple Watch Ultra 2 is on sale for $699 (down from $799). It’s likely these prices will go up if inventory dries out.

Apple's second generation AirTag tracker has purportedly been delayed until 2025, according to a new report from TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

In a recent post on X, Kuo said:

The mass production schedule for AirTag 2 has been postponed to 2025.

This updates an earlier prediction from the analyst where he said that AirTag 2 would go into mass production in 4Q24.

Kuo believes that Apple wants to build a spatial computing ecosystem, using Vision Pro as the core to integrate other devices, including AirTag 2. Vision Pro is set to launch in Q1 2024, but it appears that we may have to wait for at least a year to see how Apple will integrate AirTag 2.

Apple has confirmed that its upcoming 'Scary Fast' event on October 30 will be Mac focused.

While rumors have suggested we could see a new iMac and possibly new MacBook Pros at the fall event, Apple has revealed that the event will be centered on Mac with a new Apple Events page animation.

Users visiting the Apple Events page will see a large Apple logo with on a dark background. The logo then animates into a 'scary' version of the 'Happy Mac' icon, now used for the Finder icon on macOS.

The special event will take place virtually on October 30th, at 5pm PT / 8pm ET.

Apple has announced a 'Scary Fast' special event that will be held on October 30, 2023. The event will take place virtually at 5pm PT / 8pm ET.

Considering the 'Scary Fast' tagline, it's possible that the company will introduce a new M3 processor on October 30. This would be a change from the typical release cycle which has seen new processors arrive to the MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro before making their way to the more powerful 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro.

Also interesting is the time of the event. Apple is airing the stream at 8pm ET which is very unusual. Typically, Apple events take place at 1pm ET.

Apple is working on a new system that will be able to update the software of unopened iPhones, according to a new report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

Often when customers purchase a new iPhone, the device has been sitting in its box for quite some time, missing out on important software updates. For example, the iPhone 15 shipped with iOS 17, but iOS 17.0.1 was available by the time customers received their device. This is not ideal as some important bugs or security vulnerabilities may have been addressed in the more recent software update.

Gurman says Apple is working on a way to resolve this problem.

Apple is planning a new system for its retail stores that will update the software on iPhones prior to sale. The company has developed a proprietary pad-like device that the store can place boxes of iPhones on top of. That system can then wirelessly turn on the iPhone, update its software and then power it back down — all without the phone's packaging ever being opened.

It's possible that Apple could begin rolling out this new capability to retail stores by the end of the year.

France has revealed that Apple will release iOS 17.1 by October 24, 2023.

Last month, the national frequency agency (ANFR) in France, demanded that Apple remove the iPhone 12 from sale after determining that its radiation levels were too high.

In a recent support document, Apple explained that the iPhone boosts transmit power when sensors detect it's off-body. France apparently used a testing protocol that does not account for this, leading to concerns that the iPhone 12 emits too much radiation.

With the release of iOS 17.1, now in testing, Apple will no longer boost power when an off-body state is detected for French users. This will ensure the device passes the ANFR's test; however, it could result in a slight reduction of cellular performance.

France has confirmed that iOS 17.1 brings iPhone 12 into compliance with its guidelines and says Apple has committed to release iOS 17.1 by October 24.
