Next-Generation Tax Framework

The Income Tax Act, 2025, establishes a more robust, transparent, and taxpayer-centric dispute resolution framework designed to significantly reduce litigation and enhance confidence in the tax system. By adopting clear and simplified language, removing redundant provisions, and logically restructuring the law, the Act minimizes interpretational ambiguities that historically led to disputes. It introduces well-defined procedures and standardized timelines to ensure quicker and more consistent resolution of cases. The framework also leverages digital and faceless mechanisms to limit direct interaction between taxpayers and authorities, thereby promoting objectivity, reducing bias, and curbing opportunities for corruption. Additionally, by aligning processes and improving clarity in compliance requirements, the Act encourages voluntary compliance and fosters a less adversarial relationship between taxpayers and the administration. Overall, it represents a shift towards a more efficient, predictable, and trust-based dispute resolution ecosystem.

Village to Venture

The SHE Mart Mission, announced by the Government of India in the 2026–27 Union Budget, aims to transform rural women from credit seekers into business owners by setting up community-owned retail outlets in every district under cluster-level federations. “SHE” stands for Self Help Entrepreneur, and the mission will provide a permanent physical and digital marketplace where products made by Self Help Groups (SHGs) — such as handicrafts, farm and organic produce, handmade goods, and local wellness items — can be sold. Its main goal is to bridge the gap between rural production and urban or local markets, ensure steady and sustainable income, promote financial independence and leadership among women, and support the larger vision of creating 3 crore Lakhpati Didis. The scheme prioritizes women who are active SHG members under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), especially those trained under the Lakhpati Didi Programme, and also gives opportunities to local artisans and manufacturers. Interested SHGs must submit proposals through their Cluster Level Federation (CLF), after which products are evaluated for quality and market potential, shortlisted members receive business training, and selected groups are registered and supported by the State Rural Livelihood Mission (SRLM) for shop allotment and branding.

India’s Big AI Impact Summit 2026

At the India AI Impact Summit 2026 held at Bharat Mandapam, India signalled a decisive step toward global AI leadership by announcing an expansion of its compute capacity from 38,000 to over 58,000 GPUs under the ₹10,300+ crore IndiaAI Mission, making high-end compute accessible at affordable rates to startups, researchers and public institutions. Inaugurated by Narendra Modi and led by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the summit—attended by global leaders, ministers and AI experts—highlighted India’s model of democratised, responsible and inclusive AI development. With over 2.5 lakh students pledging responsible AI use, projections of $200 billion in potential investments, strong performance of sovereign AI models against global benchmarks, and India ranked among the top three AI nations by Stanford University, the message was clear: India is not just participating in the AI revolution, it is shaping it through a people-first, sustainable and innovation-driven approach.

Powering India’s Manufacturing Future

India’s strategy to scale up manufacturing across seven strategic and frontier sectors focuses on building globally competitive, technology-driven industrial ecosystems through large public investments, institutional strengthening, and cluster-based development. Key initiatives include the ₹10,000 crore Biopharma SHAKTI program to position India as a global biopharma manufacturing hub through new and upgraded NIPERs and a nationwide clinical trials network; India Semiconductor Mission 2.0 to develop full-stack domestic IP, equipment, materials, and skilled manpower; expansion of electronics component manufacturing with an outlay of ₹40,000 crore; establishment of Rare Earth Corridors in mineral-rich states; creation of chemical parks on a plug-and-play cluster model; strengthening capital goods manufacturing through hi-tech tool rooms, construction equipment, and container manufacturing schemes; and an integrated textile program covering fibre self-reliance, modernisation of clusters, mega textile parks, and global market linkages—together aimed at boosting domestic value addition, supply chain resilience, exports, and employment.

Shops & Establishments Annual Return: Small Task, Big Responsibility

Shops & Establishments (S&E) annual returns are mandatory compliances, generally due by 31 January for the previous calendar year. These returns capture key workforce details such as employee strength, working hours, wages, and leave. Most states now require online filing through state-specific portals (like ekarmika in Karnataka or hrylabour in Haryana) or integrated systems such as Shram Suvidha. Several states—including Haryana, West Bengal, and Maharashtra—have introduced single integrated annual returns covering S&E along with other labour laws (Factories, CLRA, EPF, ESI, POSH, etc.) to simplify compliance. Failure to file on time can attract penalties, fines, or other legal consequences, making timely submission essential for businesses.

Register Now, Relax Later- SPREE Extended till Jan 31, 2026

The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has extended the Scheme for Promotion of Registration of Employers and Employees (SPREE 2025) by one month, from 1 January 2026 to 31 January 2026, following representations from employers, associations, and State governments. Approved in the 196th ESI Corporation meeting chaired by Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the scheme aims to expand social security coverage under the ESI Act by allowing unregistered employers and employees to register without inspections, past contribution demands, or submission of prior records. Registration can be completed digitally through ESIC, Shram Suvidha, and MCA portals, with effect from the employer-specified date. Employers who do not avail the scheme by 31 January 2026 will be liable for past contributions, interest, damages, and legal action, reinforcing ESIC’s commitment to voluntary compliance and the objectives of the Code on Social Security.

Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025

After two years of enacting the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, the government has notified the final Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025 on 13 November 2025. Together, they establish India’s full privacy framework and significantly change how organizations handle personal data. With penalties of up to INR 250 crore and an 18-month compliance window, companies must reassess consent practices, data governance, security, and breach readiness. The impact goes far beyond legal teams, touching HR, sales, procurement, finance, product, operations, and every other function that handles personal information.

EPFO Launches Employees’ Enrolment Scheme 2025

The government has launched the Employees’ Enrolment Scheme 2025, allowing employers to voluntarily bring eligible workers ,those who joined between July 1 2017 and October 31 2025 — under EPF coverage. Under this scheme (open from November 1 2025 to April 30 2026), employees’ contributions for the un-covered period are waived, while employers pay the employer’s share, interest, admin charges and a nominal Rs100 penalty. The move is designed to widen formal sector social security, simplify past compliance and ensure “universal EPF inclusion” as part of the broader goal of social security for all.

Ban on Entry of Non-BS-VI Commercial Vehicles into Delhi w.e.f. 01.11.2025

The Commission for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) has issued directions regarding tightening entry norms for commercial goods vehicles into the National Capital Territory of Delhi. It clearly prohibits all non-BS-VI, non-CNG/LNG/EV vehicles (LGVs, MGVs, HGVs) from entering Delhi from 1 November 2025, except those registered within Delhi itself. Vehicles meeting BS-IV standards are granted a limited grace period—only until 31 October 2026—while BS-III and older vehicles are barred outright in view of their higher pollution potential. The move aims to reduce border-check congestion and curb emissions at entry points, aligning with the Supreme Court’s guidance on streamlining vehicle verifications.
