LITERACY IS MORE THAN READING.
IT IS THE POWER TO PARTICIPATE.
739 MILLION adults worldwide still lack basic literacy skills, according to UNESCO’s latest 2025 data — and two-thirds of them are women.
At the same time, 93% of young people aged 15–24 were literate in 2024, showing how far the world has progressed while reminding us how much work remains.
But literacy today cannot stop at reading and writing.
It must include the ability to access, understand, and navigate information in a digital world regardless of ability.
Because a digital world that cannot be accessed by everyone is not truly educated or inclusive.
“Literacy gives us the ability to understand the world. Accessibility allows everyone to experience it.”
