Kashi’s 3D Urban Digital Twin Project Development Starts with Genesys International

Varanasi Smart City Ltd.

Genesys International Corporation, based in Mumbai, is leading the development of the Kashi 3D Urban Spatial Digital Twin project, aiming to digitize the entire cityscape across 160 square kilometers. This initiative marks a significant leap in urban management and planning, positioning Kashi at the forefront of digital innovation in India.

The aerial surveys critical to this project are conducted at an elevation of 3,800 feet, flying out of Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport. Utilizing state-of-the-art LiDAR and high-resolution camera technology, these surveys will provide a detailed and accurate representation of Kashi.

Under the leadership of Dr. D. Vasudevan, Chief General Manager of Kashi Smart City, and with strategic oversight from Municipal Commissioner/CEO Akshat Verma and Divisional Commissioner Kaushal Raj Sharma, this project aims to redefine urban governance.

The digital twin will be integrated with the Kashi Integrated Command and Control Center to enhance the operational efficiency of critical civic functions managed by the Kashi Municipal Corporation, Kashi Development Authority, Jal Kal, and Jal Nigam.

Urban digital twins (UDTs) in general are considered as a potential technology to achieve digital transformative positive urban change through landscape architecture and urban planning.

Genesys International Bags Record-breaking Contract for Mumbai's Digital Twin Initiative
The company secured a mega-contract worth Rs. 155 Crores with BMC to develop Mumbai's 3D city model and map stack

Genesys International Corporation Ltd, one of the leading homegrown players in mapping technology, has secured a groundbreaking deal with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), marking a significant validation of the Genesys New India Map stack. The contract, valued at Rs. 155 Crores marks a significant milestone in advanced mapping technology being used for multiple use cases . Under this agreement, Genesys will provide the development, implementation, and upkeep of a highly accurate 3D city model and map stack for Mumbai and also update the same for 3years The project aims to provide an elaborate and comprehensive overview of the city's landscape to enable precise planning and collaboration among various stakeholders.

Mumbai city is set to witness a huge transformation in its infrastructure and advanced planning that a Digital twin map stack provides will go a long way in the city's governance.

Commenting on the significance of this partnership, Sajid Malik, CMD of Genesys International Corporation Ltd., expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "This contract marks a significant milestone for both Genesys International and the digital transformation of Mumbai. The project entails the creation of a unified mapping platform, incorporating various layers such as the 3D reality mesh model, base map with advanced features and street imaging, Digital Surface Model (DSM), Digital Terrain Model (DTM) along with a change detection map. These tools will empower municipal departments, government agencies, and citizens to make informed decisions that contribute to the city's growth.

The initiative holds promise beyond traditional mapping. By harnessing geospatial intelligence, Genesys International aims to revolutionize urban planning, infrastructure development, and emergency response systems in Mumbai. The project aligns with the city's vision of becoming a 'smart city’ equipped with advanced technologies for efficient governance and citizen engagement.

Genesys has embarked on a pathbreaking new India map stack which it has also partnered with the Survey of India, India's premier mapping agency as Mumbai embarks on this transformative journey towards becoming a truly 'smart city,'.

The project entails the creation of a unified mapping platform, incorporating various layers such as the 3D reality mesh model, base map with advanced features and street imaging, and change detection map, it said.

PM Modi lays foundation of Digital Twin mapping project. Genesys International appointed for executing it, using their New India Digital Twin Map Stack.

To accelerate development of Varanasi, PM Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone of the design and development of 3D urban digital map and database of the holy city and Genesys International has been chosen for it.

Varanasi Smart City Limited (VSCL) has initiated implementation of 3D Digital Twin in collaboration with Genesys International Corporation Ltd, the leader in creating LiDAR based high precision 3D maps for Indian cities. This initiative employs cutting-edge LiDAR technology to create a highly accurate 3D replica of Varanasi, covering its extended area of 160 Sq Kms.

Sajid Malik, the CMD of Genesys said that “After Ayodhya, the company has been chosen to do the digital twin stack for Varanasi. Being one of the oldest cities in the world and also the constituency of our PM, the Varanasi project is very important to us. We see this as a major endorsement of our New India digital twin map stack, which means creating an exact replica of the city.”

Explaining the digital programme, he said, “Like you need good map before building a house, a 3D digital map is needed to boost infra and rejuvenation of a city. This is a very basic example. But when you are investing tens and thousands of crores of rupees in urban infra, your city map should be very modern and have minute details. Our map stack will provide 5 cm accuracy. We will add hosts of layers of information which allows for multiple applications to be built on map stack. This will be very useful for the city as well as for the citizens of Varanasi. Lots of urban rejuvenation projects going on in Varanasi will be aided by the digital twin stack.”

This Urban Spatial 3D Digital Twin project is a transformative leap towards a smarter, more resilient Varanasi to cater to current and future challenges in urban governance and sustainable development.

Genesys International Appoints Pavan Tsunduru as COO to Drive New Map Stack

Genesys International, one of the leading homegrown players in mapping technology has announced the appointment of Mr. Pavan Tsunduru as the company's Chief Operating Officer (COO). With a distinguished career spanning over two decades, Mr. Tsunduru has held senior technology positions at major Indian corporations, including Reliance, where he was head of group IT strategy, Adani, - CIO Adani ports and GMR Group - MD of group company GeoKno India Private Ltd. He has displayed unique expertise in deploying high-impact technology solutions for large-scale nationwide digital infrastructure projects in his illustrious career.

In his capacity as Chief Operating Officer at Genesys International, Mr. Pavan Tsunduru will lead the charge in steering the Company's vision to build the new map stack in India as well as globally.
