Samsung will let you delete most pre-installed apps on Galaxy S6, S6 Edge

Galaxy S6 Edge let us disable or uninstall many of the preloaded programs that includes some from Google and Samsung. This means, Samsung is clearly hinting at a change and ready to give the control to users to use only those apps that they prefer.

This also means, users can simply disable or uninstall the S Voice app, and opt for Google’s voice controls.

Apps like OneDrive, OneNote and Skype from Microsoft can also be deleted from the S6 and S6 Edge, adds the report. The list will also include Samsung’s S Health and pre-installed Google apps like Gmail, Google+, Google, Play Music, Play Movies & TV and Play Games, among others.

After deleting, users can reinstall them again anytime. Microsoft and Google apps will be available on the Play Store while Samsung’s apps will always be available on the Galaxy Apps marketplace.

Yesterday, Samsung finally launched the S6 and S6 Edge in India. It is now available for pre-order and will hit store shelves in line with global launch on April 10. The 32GB Galaxy S6 is priced at Rs 49,900, 64GB at Rs 55,900 and 128GB at Rs 61,900. The 32GB, 64GB and 128GB Galaxy S6 Edge models have been priced at Rs 58,900, 64,900 and 70,900, respectively.

Google testing ‘on-body detection’ feature for Android phones

Google will soon introduce a new Android feature called “on-body detection”, a motion-sensitive feature which will keep your smartphone unlocked as long as it is either in your hand or in your pocket. Using the smartphone’s accelerometer, it will detect whether a user is holding the phone or if its in a pocket and will accordingly lock it .

The central idea behind this feature is that, it will immediately lock the device if you leave your phone somewhere making it at risk of falling into the hands of an unknown individual.

A report by Android Police states that, once a user unlocks the phone, it will stay unlocked while they are holding it or while kept in a pocket. Once the phone is put away, it will lock again and the user needs to manually enter the password to unlock it.

The report also pointed out a catch in this feature and said that, if a user hands over their phone to someone else when unlocked, it will not lock again as the feature isn’t equipped to recognise the owner’s hands or whether its in the owner’s pocket.

This feature was first spotted on a Nexus 4 running Android 5.0.1 Lollipop. Although, this feature is not related specifically to the latest Android 5.1, it will only be operational on Android 5.0 or above.

The on-body detection feature can be turned on from the Smart Lock section of Security settings. However, the feature requires the user to activate the latest Google Play Services version 7.0.97.

If you’re using an older version, the old name “Trusted behavior (experimental)” will appear and will switch to the new name as soon as Google Play Services is updated.

How to activate WhatsApp calling

WhatsApp's latest voice calling feature that had been under testing is finally available. The WhatsApp voice calling feature is enabled in the latest version of the WhatsApp Messenger that is now available for download for Android devices on Google Play (version 2.11.561).
However, the feature doesn't come right away to the users. Those who want to have the voice calling feature will need an invite, in the form of a WhatsApp call from any other WhatsApp user who has the feature activated on his/her app.
The steps involved are fairly simple:

1. Go to Google Play and download/update the free WhatsApp Messenger app.
2. Ask any other WhatsApp user you know with the voice calling feature activated to call you via WhatsApp.
Post the call, a user can find the WhatsApp voice calling feature activated on their phones and a new 'Calls' tab to the left of the Chats and Contacts tab on the WhatsApp home screen.
While there have been unofficial APKs floating around promising the feature, but it is advisable that users install the app from Google Play or the official WhatsApp website.

The all-new Galaxy Xcover 3 has a 4.5-inch screen with 480x800p resolution and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat); Samsung said that the Android Lollipop update for smartphone is on the way. It is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor and packs 1.5GB RAM, 8GB internal storage and microSD card support under the hood.

The 5MP rear camera of Galaxy Xcover 3 can capture photos under water; the selfie camera has resolution of 2MP. The smartphone is powered by a 2,200mAh battery.

Along with the standard hardware buttons, the latest Samsung smartphone has an 'Xcover' key that can be used to open the camera or activate the LED flash.

In terms of ruggedness, Samsung Galaxy Xcover 3 comes with IP67 rating and MIL-STD 810G certification. Android 5.1 is coming; here are the newest features

Released last November, Android 5.0 Lollipop ran into technical issues on certain devices. Google had to fix some glitches in the new OS running on Nexus devices, prompting it to release Android 5.0.1 and Android 5.0.2.
