Responsible for the leadership and management of the Security and Housekeeping Service, taking all necessary actions and decisions regarding the management of security and support services operations, referring matters of an exceptionally complex and sensitive nature to the Assistant Director of Estates Operations.
• Be a key member of the Senior Facilities Management Team and contribute to strategic plans and developments for the service as a whole.
• Develop business plans in support of the service strategy, identifying resources, targets and measurement of success. Manage the effective implementation of these plans, reviewing achievements against the identified standards and benchmarks and adapting objectives and plans accordingly.
• Manage and control budgets, ensuring that expenditure is monitored and controlled in line with the Company’s financial regulation.
• Undertake regular benchmarking and market testing against appropriate organisations in the public and private sectors.
• Develop and implement a programme of continuous improvement.
• Responsible for the tendering, procurement and management of external service contracts and associated Service Level Agreements and protocols to ensure delivery meets service requirements and objectives in line with Company’s requirements.
• Lead on the development and implementation of security related initiatives, for example, intruder alarms, locking systems, access control, incident reporting and CCTV systems for the Company.
• Keep up to date with developments in security standards, technology and working methods, ensuring they are fully investigated and adopted where appropriate to ensure that services remain economically efficient, customer focused and fit for purpose.
• Produce and distribute high level management information and monthly reports as required to inform senior management, working groups and committees.
• Responsible for the provision of a secure environment for staff, clients and and other team to the Company through the prevention of crime and anti-social behaviour and the application of security measures and related design.
• Carry out security audits and business security risk assessments for all areas using a high level analytical and problem solving approach.
• Increase awareness of security issues throughout the area through development of an effective crime prevention strategy and provision of professional support.
• Regularly review services provided in line with customer needs and strategic priorities. Develop key performance indicators focussed on improving customer satisfaction and service delivery, driving forward any improvements where necessary.
• Pro-actively forge positive and influential relationships with the Police, Fire Service and other security agencies as required.
• Motivate, inspire and lead all staff as Security Operations Manager, ensuring that the University’s HR policies are followed at all times.
• Ensure staffs have a clear understanding of strategic priorities within the service and understand how their performance, development and contributions relate to the University’s strategic aims and objectives.
• Utilise effective management techniques to establish and develop a committed and motivated team in the security and support service, focussed on delivering an effective and efficient service in line with the Divisions strategies and goals.
• Have line management responsibility for the Security and Support Supervisors and ensure via this role, effective management of the overall Security and support services team.
• Responsible for ensuring that all staff within security services are appropriately appraised and developed through individual PDRs.
