I lost 40 coaching cards the week after a mixer.
They were not gone. They were unreadable.
A coaches and consultants mixer in Pune, one evening, 40 cards
into my bag.
By Monday I could remember four faces and no follow-ups.
The cards had names and nothing else. No problem they named,
no price they flinched at, nothing to open with.
So the next mixer I recorded myself, offline, right after each
conversation.
A 30-second voice note on the contact, captured while the words
were still fresh.
The scan takes 2 seconds, and the note rides on the contact.
By the train home the bag was a list, not a pile.
I think most coaches lose leads to memory, not to a better
competitor.
Here is what I do now.
1. Record the one detail they said, in their words, before you move on.
2. Let the note sit on the card, not in a notebook you will not open.
3. Write the follow-up from the note, not from the face.
The follow-up that opened with their real problem got replies.
The polite ones did not.
How do you remember what someone told you an hour ago?
Save this before your next mixer.
