The Beginning of My Career as a Trainer

When I first entered Karnataka Polytechnic as a Faculty for Computer Hardware, I walked in without expectations. I didn’t know how many students would be there. I didn’t know the situation. I just walked in with my knowledge and a sincere commitment to teach.

What I saw that day is still carved in my memory.

Four batches.
Each batch with 15 to 20 students.

But the hall was huge… and the students were sitting on both sides, far away from the center. They had been left halfway by their old trainer. Their doubts, their dreams, their confidence—everything was floating without direction.

They were waiting for someone.
Not to just teach.
But to show them the way.

I looked at them and said only one sentence:

“You all have the potential to become Computer Engineers.”

There was no mic. No audio system.
If I wanted them to hear me, I had to shout across the hall.
Every single day, with full voice, without pause.

By the end of the first week, my lungs burned.
I developed a severe infection.
Heavy cough. Antibiotics. Sleepless nights.
Physically, I was breaking.

But I continued.
Because a promise was already made.

Then there was the second blow.

The electronic components meant for teaching were not in order.
The materials were outdated.
No proper devices to show.
Teaching hardware without hardware is like teaching swimming without water.

So I brought my own equipment from home.
Graphic cards. External DVD drives. Cables. Motherboard.
And every day while returning home, I would have a fear in my mind:
“What if someone asks, why are you carrying these? Who do they belong to?”

But a voice inside me said,
“You promised them. And your promise is bigger than your fear.”
