National Science Day was vibrantly celebrated on February 28, 2026, at the Pilikula Regional Science Centre in collaboration with the Learning Links Foundation. Around 350 enthusiastic students and teachers from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts took part in this inspiring event.
The program kicked off with an inauguration led by Prof. G. Shrinikethan, Retired Dean of NITK Surathkal and Chairman of the Sub-Committee of the Pilikula Development Authority. In his address, he urged children to develop a questioning attitude and a strong research-oriented mindset. He highlighted the urgent need for intensified research in vital areas like energy, fuel, water, environment, climate, waste management, and recycling, emphasizing the discovery of long-term, sustainable solutions to current challenges so that future generations can reap the benefits.
Among the distinguished dignitaries present were Shri Srinivasa Adiga, Senior Lecturer at DIET Mangaluru; Shri Manjunath and Shri Shrikant, Chief Managers from the Learning Links Foundation; and Shri Lakshminarayana, Mathematics Subject Inspector from the DDPI Office, Mangalore. The event was presided over by Dr. Ashok K.R., Director of the Pilikula Regional Science Centre.
Renowned science communicator and writer Mrs. Nandita Jayaraj served as the resource person, delivering an insightful lecture centered on the National Science Day theme. She engaged students in lively and interactive discussions that sparked curiosity and deeper understanding.
The day featured exciting parallel competitions for school students, including a science model exhibition, a science quiz, and an adrawing competition. Teachers enjoyed exclusive hands-on science demonstrations.
The valedictory session was graced by Hon'ble Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, Shri U.T. Khader, who addressed the gathering. He stressed that a life of self-respect and dignity is achievable only through quality education. He called on every student to commit to nurturing strong human values to strengthen the nation, pursue excellence in education, and aim for the highest positions in society.
The Hon'ble Speaker felicitated the winners of the various competitions with certificates and prizes. The program concluded on a high note as participating students and judges shared their positive impressions and heartfelt appreciation for the well-organized event.
