World Health Organization launches COVID-19 information service on WhatsApp

The World Health Organization (WHO) has launched a chatbot on WhatsApp to provide information on the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic sweeping the planet.

To interact with it, users will need to message the WHO account on +41 79 475 22 09 and send the word 'Hi' to begin chatting, after which, a list of prompts is returned to the user to access official information about the virus.

Information used will be updated daily and at this stage is only available in English. Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish are to follow in "coming weeks".

"Digital technology gives us an unprecedented opportunity for vital health information to go viral and spread faster than the pandemic, helping us save lives and protect the vulnerable," director-general of WHO Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said.

महाशिवरात्रि (बोलचाल में शिवरात्रि): हिन्दुओं का एक प्रमुख त्योहार है। यह भगवान शिव का प्रमुख पर्व है।

फाल्गुन कृष्ण चतुर्दशी को शिवरात्रि पर्व मनाया जाता है। माना जाता है कि सृष्टि के प्रारंभ में इसी दिन मध्यरात्रि में भगवान शंकर का ब्रह्मा से रुद्र के रूप में अवतरण हुआ था। प्रलय की वेला में इसी दिन प्रदोष के समय भगवान शिव तांडव करते हुए ब्रह्मांड को तीसरे नेत्र की ज्वाला से समाप्त कर देते हैं। इसीलिए इसे महाशिवरात्रि अथवा कालरात्रि कहा गया। कई स्थानों पर यह भी माना जाता है कि इसी दिन भगवान शिव का विवाह हुआ था। साल में होने वाली 12 शिवरात्रियों में से महाशिवरात्रि की सबसे महत्वपूर्ण माना जाता है।

कश्मीर शैव मत में इस त्यौहार को हर-रात्रि और बोलचाल में 'हेराथ' या 'हेरथ' भी जाता है।

What is Li-Fi technology?

Li-Fi technology is a ground-breaking light-based communication technology, which makes use of light waves instead of radio technology to deliver data.

visible light spectrum, Li-Fi technology can transmit data and unlock capacity which is 10,000 times greater than that available within the radio spectrum.

The visible light spectrum is plentiful, free and unlicensed, mitigating the radio frequency spectrum crunch effect.

The future internet

Li-Fi technology will in future enable faster, more reliable internet connections, even when the demand for data usage has outgrown the available supply from existing technologies such as 4G, LTE and Wi-Fi. It will not replace these technologies, but will work seamlessly alongside them.

Using light to deliver wireless internet will also allow connectivity in environments that do not currently readily support Wi-Fi, such as aircraft cabins, hospitals and hazardous environments.

Light is already used for data transmission in fibre-optic cables and for point to point links, but Li-Fi is a special and novel combination of technologies that allow it to be universally adopted for mobile ultra high speed internet communications.

A dual use for LED lighting

The wide use of solid state lighting offers an opportunity for efficient dual use lighting and communication systems.

Innovation in LED and photon receiver technology has ensured the availability of suitable light transmitters and detectors, while advances in the modulation of communication signals for these types of components has been advanced through signal processing techniques, such as multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO), to become as sophisticated as those used in mobile telecommunications.
