Difference between a Cunning Web Developer Vs Genuine Web Dev - My Experience!

A lot of time, we developers work on various projects. Before starting the actual work, certain things like payments, work deliverables, milestones etcetera are discussed and set in place. But what happens during the course of website designing or website development, several clients fail to send payments on time, even when the milestones of work deliverables are reached. What happens during this time? Well, that’s where the difference between a cunning developer and a genuine good at heart developer comes into play.

- A cunning developer always makes sure that the entire development work or deliverable files, are not hosted on the clients server. They strip their clients off any control to their website and its files. So when there is issues with payment, they stop the work and keep the website hostage. Now, several people would say, this is smart and perhaps the right thing to do because at the end of the day, it’s all business. But, I have a different opinion.

- A genuine developer, makes sure, the work doesn’t stops. They keep requesting for payment, but also make sure that they do not hold back from completing the project they have initially promised to deliver. They don’t hold the website hostage and work mostly on the clients server directly giving them full access to the website code, and files. If the code is on GitHub, they share access to the repo with the client as well.

I have recently experienced this, where I gave all access to the client like I always do. All the files, code, images, content everything. After the work was done and delivered successfully. They start making issues with the payment. I requested, time and again. But never EVER held them hostage. Never EVER stopped working. In the end successfully delivered their website. After they received everything, there hasn’t been any communication with them. They stopped responding. But, am I suppose to feel bad? Maybe yes, but I know I haven’t WRONGED anyone, and when that’s the case, I would eventually get what I rightfully deserve in the form of money, and success. This has been my principal since the time I got into Website building and it will continue to be like that even if I get unfortunate and face a lot of bad ones like this.

With the increasing population and now AI coming in, the whole landscape of Freelancing and Website Development industry has changed. But, what remains, is that Human Quality full of emotions that really makes it very valuable for some people who are trying to live their profession and not just make a quick buck out of it. We need to start asking this question, what is that one thing, that AI cannot replace? Think about it. It’s “Feeling” your customers emotions. Anybody who comes to me, needing a website, wouldn’t be willing to burn their money with me, right? So what am I suppose to do then? Build a human connect with them, spend as much time as possible and truly understand WHY they are building this website and HOW can I make every single penny of theirs, worth.

Personally, I don’t just love my profession, I live it. I am not perfect and not even close to perfection, I make a lot of mistakes but my efforts to make something extremely valuable for my clients is always intact. And I believe anybody who is willing to get their business off the ground with a website would definitely need that emotional connect with the person they are willing to work with. Isn’t it? This makes us more valuable than any AI that’s out there. And this one feature of ours makes us extremely valuable as a worker.

Ask yourself, you have a business, do you really want things to be built for you in 24 hours or 24 days by someone who knows what it feels to FAIL. And, would NEVER want that to happen to you. There are so many different ways I can interpret this but remember, have a heart that cares and a mind that works, you will never go out of business.

Helped a client with restoring his Wordpress Website!

This client approached me with his business website which broke during some updates that he was performing. He was extremely upset about it. One of his friends informed him about me, saying that I could definitely help. He contacted me, I reviewed and restored his website. The website was resource heavy therefore it took a while in restoring every asset of the website but in the end it was fully restored successfully.
