Samsung announces Galaxy Grand 2

Samsung has announced the new Galaxy Grand 2 smartphone that features several improvements over its predecessor To start off, it features a new design that is similar to the new Galaxy Note 3
with a stitching pattern around the faux leather back.

On the front is a new 5.25-inch LCD with a resolution of 1280x720, an improvement over the WVGA display on the previous model. On the inside, the Galaxy Grand 2 runs on a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage space with a microSD card slot. The battery has been upgraded and now has a capacity of 2,600mAh.
The larger display means the new model is slightly taller and wider than its predecessor. It still has a dual-SIM slot and the same 8 megapixel camera on the back. The Galaxy Grand 2 comes with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.
The phone will be available primarily in white, with black and pink offered in select regions.

Alleged metal frame of Samsung Galaxy S5

Add this to the list of "maybe, but maybe not" rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S5. Leaked images show a metal frame for a smartphone, allegedly the Galaxy S5.
The frame measures 143.8 x 72.3mm, compared to 136.6 x 69.8mm for the current Galaxy S4 and 151.2 x 79.2mm for the Galaxy Note 3. This, of course, leads to speculations that the Galaxy S5 will have a larger screen (any S phone so far has).
It should be noted that a metal frame does not necessarily mean metal exterior – the frame can easily be covered in plastic panels.
Also, the camera hole is in one of the corners, even though Samsung puts cameras on the center line of the back (not always though, the camera on the original Galaxy S was in the corner). Also, the 3.5mm audio jack is at the bottom, while Samsung design dictates it should be on the top.
Anyway, this "could" be a frame for the metal-clad Galaxy F line
, which isn't official yet. Or it might really be for the Galaxy S5, which some rumors say will launch in January
next year. Then again, until we see the frame with a Samsung logo stamped on it, we're not getting our hopes up.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1

Introduction;
Lightweight, agile and simply affordable, seven-inchers did, at one point, seem capable of pushing ten-inch Android tablets out of business. Even Samsung, with its device-for-every-taste approach had to admit defeat. The Koreans all but threw in the towel with the Galaxy Tab line, consciously relegating it to the midrange.
The Notes are a different breed though - one we can't see Samsung giving up on any time soon. Of course, it's always the phablet enjoying most of the spotlight and the Note 3 has already had several occasions to emphatically prove that it deserved every bit of it.
But the ten-point-one that follows closely could turn out to be the even more impressive device in terms of the scope and depth of upgrades it brings to the
The new Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition comes in three different flavors sharing a quite similar design to the Galaxy Note 3 phablet. There is a Wi-Fi-only version and a 3G-enabled model, both powered by Samsung's own Exynos 5 Octa chipset, as well as an LTE-capable tablet with Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 800 chipset ticking inside.
The one we're reviewing is the Exynos 5 version and here goes the spec sheet.

Key features;
* 10.1" 16M-color Super Clear PLS capacitive touchscreen of 2560 x 1600 px resolution

* Quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A15 & quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7, Mali-T628MP6 GPU; Exynos 5420 chipset

* 3GB of RAM

* Android OS v4.3 Jelly Bean with TouchWiz UX UI

* S Pen input and great software backend

* One of a kind split-screen multitasking and pop-up mini apps

* Quad-band GPRS/EDGE/HSPA and hexa-band LTE connectivity cat.4

* Voice calls (on 3G and LTE models only)

* 16/32/64 GB of built-in memory

* 8 MP autofocus camera, 3264x2448 pixels, geotagging

* 1080p video recording (LTE model) / 1080p video recording (Wi-Fi and 3G models)

* 2MP front-facing camera; 1080p videos

* Side-mounted stereo speakers

* Wi-Fi 802.11 ac/a/b/g/n Wi-Fi Direct, dual-band, Wi-Fi hotspot

* Stereo Bluetooth v4.0

* HDMI TV-out (adapter required), USB host (adapter required)

* microSD card slot

* Standard 3.5 mm audio jack

* Infrared port

* GPS with A-GPS support; GLONASS, digital compass

* 1080p XviD/MKV video support with subtitles

* Accelerometer, three-axis Gyroscope sensor

* Polaris Office 5 document editor preinstalled

* 8,220 mAh Li-Po batteryMai

Disadvantages;

* No NFC

* No DivX and AC3 codec support

* Air view works with S-Pen only, no thumb support

* Notification area not optimized for the large screen

The latest in processing power is not a bragging right - more a necessity really - considering there are more than a handful of potential competitors powered by either Snapdragon 800 or Tegra 4. And not Androids only, the likes of the Lumia 2520 and the Surface too. The iPad Air certainly doesn't come underpowered either.
But the choice of chipset(s) isn't the only lesson learned from the previous Note 10.1. This time around, the screen resolution too is at the top of what's currently available in the tablet segment. Samsung have also thrown in a massive 8220mAh battery in a body that's more compact, slimmer and weighing less than the predecessor's. The 2014 Edition Note 10.1 couldn't have hoped for a better start and the praise the Note 3 is getting will put even more wind in its sails.

Samsung Galaxy S4 for AT&T receiving Android 4.3 update

The Android 4.3 update rollout to Samsung Galaxy phones continues – this night AT&T users may have seen their Galaxy S4
handsets notify them of a new update available. The download is a hefty 720MB, but it's well worth it.
If you haven’t gotten a notification yet, you can manually check for an update (from About in the Settings menu). The build number is JSS15J.1337UCUEMJ9. You'll have to be patient though, users are reporting that the update takes a while to download.

The changelog includes support for the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, speed improvements (TRIM support, less lag in the launcher, better RAM management), KNOX enterprise security, better color reproduction on the screen and a new camera software.

Samsung on Region lock: you need 5 min of voice calls

Samsung introduced the controversial Region lock with its Galaxy Note 3 phablet and that caused quite a stir – the idea of being unable to use your unlocked device with some SIM cards sounded most unpleasant.
Samsung quickly clarified
that this Region lock has been implemented to stem the grey market imports and that it goes away if the first SIM card you use is from the region you bought the device from. After that you can pop in a SIM card from a different region and it should work as expected.
It turned out this wasn’t quite all there is to it, though. Samsung Germany added the additional clarification that you have to use the SIM card from the correct region to make at least 5 minutes worth of voice calls (it doesn’t matter if it's incoming or outgoing calls).
It doesn’t have to be a SIM from the country where you got your Note 3 either, what's important is that a European Note 3 does 5 minutes of voice calling using a SIM from a European carrier (here "Europe" refers to the EU and the European Economic Area, not the geography term, see below).
If you're still having problems with the Region lock, you can visit the regional Samsung Care center to have it deactivated. You can call the center at €0.60/minute from a cell, €0.20/minute from a landline, but it's not clear if the actual unlocking will cost anything and if yes, how much.

Note that the Region lock is implemented in the Android 4.3 software that many Samsung phones are receiving at the moment, including the Galaxy S4, S4 mini, S III and Note II. So, keep that in mind before you hit Update.
If you already have and for some reason the official unlock method isn't working (and you can't visit a Samsung Care center), you can also go theXDA route
if you have a rooted phone.

Samsung said to launch a device with wraparound screen next year

According to a report released by "Bloomberg", Samsung has plans to release a smartphone with wraparound display at some point next year. The new screen tech will allow users to look up messages or stocks from an angle.
The upcoming device is said to use updated version of proprietary Samsung technology called Youm. It was showcased during CES
this year, and is currently featured in the Samsung Galaxy Round
Speculation points that the new three-sided display can be seen in ether a Galaxy S, or a Galaxy Note device. An altogether new model family is also not out of question.
Curiously, the report about the yet to be released Samsung smartphone comes hot on the heels of similar news about Apple. A few days ago,word got out
that Apple itself is working on two large-screen iPhone models with curved display.

Samsung Galaxy S5 news

Ensuring it is not left behind, latest Samsung Galaxy S5 news has once again seen the upcoming handset tipped to run a 64-bit processor, similar to that found in the new iPhone 5S.

While Samsung’s CEO of Mobile Shin Jong-Kyun recently stated that "yes, our next smartphones will have 64-bit processing functionality," reports of production issues had hinted this feature might not drop until later in 2014 aboard the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Now, however, the Samsung Galaxy S5 looks set to be on the receiving end, of the PC-esque processor.

“According to the latest bits of information coming from Samsung’s homeland, the company is pretty much done with developing its in-house 64-bit CPU,” tech blog GforGames has reported. They added: “From our understanding, Samsung went past the more difficult parts of creating the CPU, and the chip is almost ready for its release.”

In other recent Samsung Galaxy S5 news has seen a waterproof body tipped for inclusion on the HTC One
rival. Unlike the S4 and the follow-on S4 Active, recent reports out of Korea have hinted that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will be a waterproof
and dustproof direct from the box, much like the Sony Xperia Z1.

According to further Korean national news outlets, the Samsung Galaxy S5 will also adopt an aluminium or other metal body in a bid to keep footing with the highend and luxurious path being forged out by its competitors, Apple and HTC.

Although looking set to take pointers from the iPhone 5S' processor, further Samsung representatives have added that the S5 will not incorporate a fingerprint scanner like its leading rival. “We are not yet developing the technology,” an official Samsung spokesperson said when questioned on the possibility of a fingerprint scanner hosting Samsung Galaxy S5

Further reports have suggested the Samsung Galaxy S5 release date will see the handset line up with 3GB of RAM in tow. A feature that has also been mooted for the imminent Samsung Galaxy Note 3
, the S5's expansive RAM has been hinted at after the company's latest development announcement.

Speaking in recent weeks, Samsung confirmed that it had started mass production of the first 3GB low power DDR3 RAM chips for mobile devices. With the Samsung Galaxy S5 set to be the manufacturer's new flagship phone, it makes sense that it will run the company's latest developments and most advanced components.

A chip that could spell more than increased speeds and improved multitasking capabilities, the Samsung Galaxy S5 RAM improvement could result in a slimmer phone with a bettery battery life. An official spokesperson for the company stated: "Samsung's new ultra-slim memory solutions will enable thinner smartphone designs and allow for additional battery space, while offering a data transfer speed of up to 2,133 megabits per second (Mbps) per pin."

Samsung Galaxy S5 Release DateAs you would expect, Samsung has yet to give any direct indication as to when the Samsung Galaxy S5 release date will be held. That’s not to say we don’t have some idea on when to expect the next addition to the company’s flagship smartphone brand though.

If Samsung sticks with past tradition – and we can’t see why it wouldn’t – then it is expected that the Samsung Galaxy S5 release date will be held sometime around April/May 2014.

Although still nothing more than speculation, this predicted Samsung Galaxy S5 release date does have a theory behind it. Like its bitter rival Apple, Samsung has become something of a fan of strict annual product cycles for its leading product lines, as such it has become a little bit predictable.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 hit UK retailers on April 26 after a dedicated New York launch event on March 14. The Samsung Galaxy S3
went into stores on May 29 2012 and all the way back in 2011, the Samsung Galaxy S2 launched on May 1. Starting to see the pattern?

Although a late April/early May Samsung Galaxy S5 release date is believed to be on the cards, there are still many rounds of rumours and leaks expected before
