The subject you choose to specialize in will depend on the level you're teaching. In a primary school or high school, for example, you may likely start with typing skills. As abilities evolve, you may begin teaching the building blocks of computer systems. If you're teaching at the college level, whether at a technical school or a university, you tackle algorithms and practical techniques. It is not until late in their college education, or they start pursuing a Higher education, that your students specialize. They may focus on computational complexity theory, computer graphics, programming language theory, computer programming, or human-computer interaction, for example. Because this area of study is constantly growing and evolving, your work needs to evolve as well. This means a big responsibility of your job is to stay abreast of industry developments, as well as keeping the excitement and passion for this field alive in your students.

Did you know your keyboard was designed to slow you down? 🤯

Back in the 1870s, early typewriters had a big problem—if you typed too fast, the mechanical arms would jam! 😫 Frustrated by constant clogs, inventor Christopher Sholes came up with a clever fix: he rearranged the keys to force typists to type slower.

The QWERTY layout (named after the first six letters on the top row) spread common letter pairs apart, reducing jams. And guess what? It worked! Even though modern keyboards don’t have this issue, QWERTY stuck around.

Funny enough, some say DVORAK (a more efficient layout) lets you type faster—but after 150 years, we’re still hooked on QWERTY! 😆

Study proves AI is dulling our cognitive abilities. Brain scans show AI use reduces your memory and critical thinking.

A recent MIT study has raised serious concerns about the long-term cognitive effects of relying on AI tools like ChatGPT.

Using EEG brain scans, researchers tracked 54 students over four months and found that those who consistently used ChatGPT for writing tasks showed significantly reduced brain activity, memory retention, and critical thinking compared to peers using Google or no tools at all. Dubbed “The Cognitive Cost of Using LLMs,” the study revealed that AI users not only produced less original work but also struggled to recall their own writing shortly after completing it.

While ChatGPT offered speed and ease, this came at a cost—what researchers called “mental passivity.” The study also warned of AI-induced echo chambers, where users accept algorithm-generated responses without questioning their validity. Interestingly, even when AI users switched to unaided tasks, their cognitive engagement remained low. In contrast, those who began without assistance later showed heightened brain activity when introduced to tools, suggesting that AI works best as a support—not a substitute—for human thinking.
