Designing UX for Regulated Industries: Healthcare & Fintech

A confusing button on a retail site costs a sale. A confusing flow on a healthcare or fintech platform can cost a compliance violation, or a patient's trust. Regulated industries need a different design discipline. Here's what changes.

The Real Cost of a Confusing Product: A Founder's Breakdown

We put numbers to what "confusing product" actually costs a growing company, not in design terms, in the terms your CFO cares about.

UX Debt: The Line Item Nobody Puts On the Roadmap

Tech debt gets a sprint. Design debt usually doesn't get named at all, it just quietly slows every feature you ship after it. Here's how to spot it before it becomes the reason your roadmap feels stuck.

Dashboard: Cards or Data Table? A or B

Same analytics dashboard, two ways to show the numbers.

A: Visual cards, charts, icons, colors, quick to scan.
B: Dense data table, every number visible, built for people who live in spreadsheets.

A wins for occasional users checking in once a day. B wins for power users who want everything at once, no clicking through.

Which one would your users actually want? A or B.

Dark Patterns Just Became a Legal Problem, Not Just a UX One

Confirm-shaming checkboxes. Fake urgency timers. Subscriptions that are one click to join and ten to cancel. Regulators are actively fining companies for these now. What used to be a "growth hack" is turning into a compliance risk on your balance sheet.

Marketing Gets the Ad Budget. Design Gets the Blame.

Ad spend goes up every year. Landing page budget barely moves. Then conversion doesn't improve, and design gets asked why.

You can't outspend a broken funnel. If the page can't convert the traffic you're already paying for, more traffic just means more people bouncing faster.

Where does your budget actually go, ads or the page the ads land on?

Empty State: Blank or Guided? A or B

A new user opens a feature with nothing in it yet, an empty inbox, an empty dashboard, an empty project.

A: A clean blank screen with just a "+ Add" button.
B: A short illustration, a one-line explainer, and a clear next step.

A trusts the user to figure it out. B assumes they need a nudge. Which one gets your users to their first "aha moment" faster?

AI Agents Are Now Shopping For Your Customers. Is Your Site Built For That?

A growing share of purchases in 2026 don't start with a human scrolling your site, they start with an AI agent comparing options on someone's behalf. If your pricing, product pages, and checkout aren't structured for a machine to read them accurately, you're invisible to a buyer who never opens your homepage.

Guided Tour or Learn-As-You-Go? A or B

New user opens your product for the first time. Do you walk them through every feature, or let them explore and help only if they ask?

A: Step-by-step tour on first login, every key feature pointed out before they touch anything.

B: Drop them straight in, small "?" help icon in the corner for when they need it.

A helps with complex tools. B respects people who already know what they're doing, and skips the tour most users click through anyway.

Vote A or B. Bonus if you've tested this on your own product.

5 Ways Founders Quietly Lose Money to Bad UX

Nobody puts "bad UX" on a P&L line. But it's hiding in your support costs, your churn, your CAC. Here are 5 places it shows up, and what it's actually costing you.
