Project ARA is an initiative by Google that aims to develop a free, open hardware platform for creating highly modular smartphones.
Google says Project Ara is “designed exclusively for 6 billion people,” but it’s not clear who the real target is for the modular smartphone platform initiative.
Liberation from component vendors
Call it a Lego phone, a modular phone, a DYI phone, or a totally customizable phone. Project Ara is breaking a smartphone into modular pieces, giving people opportunity to build custom phones.
Time magazine, which conducted an extensive interview with members of the Project Ara team, called the platform something that “permits hot-swapping of modules, without requiring you to power down the phone — which means that you could slide out the camera and replace it with a battery whenever you needed a little extra juice.

Google has captured a lot of attention so far with Project Ara. The idea of being able to buy modules to incrementally upgrade your phone could reduce a lot of unnecessary costs and waste associated with having the latest and greatest in smartphone technology.

When Harley Davidson announced the elimination of Buell brand, founders of Ronin Motor Works were disappointed. They have always respected Buell motorcycle philosophy that is challenging Status Quo, the Buell 1125 series with a liquid cooled engine looked like the start of interesting times in motorcycle world. Since the production of this cool vehicle was ceased, Magpul Industries Corp managed to get 2 Buell 1125Rs which are used as design exercise to explore what kind of bike can be built around this revolutionary engine and frame. The result is Ronin 47 Motorcycle.
This cool design is based on 1125 where the front end features a linkage fork designed for better handling characteristic of stock Buell chassis. Just in case you haven’t noticed, the axle moves along the same path as a conventional set of telescopic forks. The increased trail by 13mm over stock allows this bike steers lightly yet can be handled confidently. The benefit of this design over a telescopic fork is that you can have easily tunable suspension through the Penske mono-shock for finer adjustment of rider’s weight and any road environments.

Every individual motorcycle will be named after one of the 47 Ronin of Japanese legend – Oishi Yoshikane, Isogai Masahira and Otaka Tadao, which/who have already been claimed. Kimura Sadayuki, Horibe Takeyasu, Mase Masaaki and many others remain unsold.

The Ronin’s name will be engraved on its respective eponymous bike, as well as upon the bamboo toolbox that comes with each. You can read about each bike on its page if you’d care to. For instance, the motorcycle you see above is Kimura Sadayuki. Finished in matte titanium and black, it is named for “…Kimura Sadayuki, who was a rider in the service of Asano. He was indeed one of the successful loyalists.” (via Forty Seven Ronin, 1893)

Piezoelectricity is a well-known effect in which stretching or compressing a material causes it to generate an electrical voltage (or the reverse, in which an applied voltage causes it to expand or contract). But for materials of only a few atomic thicknesses, no experimental observation of piezoelectricity has been made, until now.
The observation provides a new property for two-dimensional materials such as molybdenum disulfide, opening the potential for new types of mechanically controlled electronic devices.
'Proof of the piezoelectric effect and piezotronic effect adds new functionalities to these two-dimensional materials,' said Zhong Lin Wang, Regents' Professor in Georgia Tech's School of Materials Science and Engineering and a co-leader of the research.

Columbia researchers have discovered a radical new material (pictured) that can create electricity and could be sewn into clothes.

Jeep Hurricane The Future Of Off-Roading

If you think that today’s off-road vehicles can carry you anyway no matter how difficult the terrain is just think what the future will bring: an ultimate off-road car that won’t be stopped by anything.

This vehicle could be the Jeep Hurricane, a Daimler-Chrysler concept unveiled at the 2005 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Until now there’s nothing special about this car, but think about this: Hurricane is a Jeep with more horsepower, more climbing ability and more steering options than any car ever made.

What Makes The Hurricane So Perfect?

First of all the way it’s made. Jeep Hurricane is made from lightweight yet strong and durable material. The two seats, no doors interior surrounds the occupants with an exposed carbon fiber and polished aluminum. The suspension and powertrain are mounted directly to the body. It measures some 108.1 inches of wheelbase, a width of 80.0 inches, and a height of 68.2 inches. It holds a five speed automatic transmission system, as well as wheels measuring 20 x 10 inches. The Hurricane 14.3 inches of ground clearance, 20 inches of suspension travel, and incredible approach/departure angles of 64.0 /86.7 degrees makes it not the most comfortable and luxurious off road vehicle, but the most functional one.

The second thing that makes this car so perfect is its engine, actually engines. Yes, the Jeep Hurricane is powered by two real American muscle 5.7-liter HEMI engines, one in the front and one in the back. Those two engines generate a total of 670 hp and 740 lb-ft of torque. Depending on the driver’s needs the Hurricane the engines are using 16, 12, 8 or 4 cylinders.

The third and maybe the most exceptional feature of the Hurricane is the steering system that offers the best performance and maneuverability. This marvel of engineering offers a multiple steering modes using four-wheel independent steering, that means that each wheel can turn separately from the others. In the standard steering mode, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction to the front wheels, which tightens the turning radius and makes for more accurate steering. In the second mode, the rear wheels turn in the same direction as the front wheels, meaning the Hurricane can move to the side without changing the direction that it faces. The third mode, utilizing the "T-Box Zero Steer" mechanism, allows all four wheels to "toe-in" and changes the drive direction to each wheel so that they alternate making the Hurricane to rotate in place.

Adidas miCoach SmartWatch

The smartwatch, which will be available exclusively on Adidas website, will also allow runners to track their runs using GPS mapping.

There are no cables, straps and additional sensors with this all-in-one device Smart Run uses optical technology to track heart rate from wrist, an in-built accelerometer counting every step to help monitor stride rate and GPS to track speed, distance and logs.
The device which would have 1.45 inch color touch screen display also features a MP3 player with Bluetooth wireless audio delivers music and audible coaching guidance to solve problems of flailing headphone cables and music players, it added.

Adidas already offers a miCoach app on smartphones. Smart wearables, as a category, is growing globally with the likes of Samsung, Motorola and Apple coming out with their smartphones across various price points.

While smartwatches from these firms are not dedicated to healthcare or athletics, most of these support apps like pedometer and heart rate monitor to help users monitor various bodily functions.

Well we know everyone is fed up with NSA’s security breach pimps. They have had done this in the past and they are doing it now. Reading your very personal text messages and emails is now not hard for them.
So, to give them a hard time a team from Geeksphone and Silent Circle has announced a new phone. This will help protect and un-authorized access even from NSA; as they claim.

This phone runs a customized version of Android and they have named it “PrivateOS“. What they have customized is, they made it capable of making secure voice calls, text messages and email conversation. No more software of hardware information have been leaked out yet for the phone. But it is being speculated that it will have usual apps from Google on the front.
